Well after the first episode No Game No Life could have gone anywhere. But this is a cruel world, this is anime. Our expectations should have never left the rock bottom they were initially at for the show. It didn't quite go in the worst possible direction. Instead, the second worst possible direction?

The second worst direction is still a lot better than most anime can manage. I'll watch and probably enjoy the rest of the series now that we've gotten the incest out of the frame.

This trainwreck seems to be fraught with soft-core porn and pantyshots of an 11 year old girl who her brother wishes wasn't his sister so she could be his girlfriend and who consequently used the absolute rules of the world to force a mostly naked girl to unconditionally be his girlfriend and satisfy his "sexual needs". (This all happens in the first 10 minutes of the episode, btw.)

Are you absolutely sure you want to get on that train?

Hey I warned you guys things would get pretty drat skeevy in No Game No Life. It just happens that the plot does do some interesting things with games while being held back by its creepy undertones. At least it's transparent that the main character is a terrible maladjusted person instead of being some perfect person that everyone loves, but we'll have to see if the story will do anything with that. I'm sticking on this train to see if it crashes and burns or not.

So you stopped before the bath scene featuring a fully nude 11 year old girl with nothing but Godiva hair covering her? I have no idea what happened after that because I instinctively alt+f4ed out of that poo poo. No Game No Life may have ditched any notions of a possible incestuous romance but that's not stopping them from exploiting the hell out of the little sister anyways.

While I can definitely see how it'd turn some away, I actually found episode 2 of No Game No Life a lot of fun, the Steph-a-Scope gag and her seiyuu's delivery on the reactions really slew me. It reminds me a lot of Mondaiji-tachi in overall theme so I'll definitely stick with it.

As for my other Wednesday show, Chaika, they are reallllly skipping a lot of the character development stuff, but I can understand why. The pace of things is way faster and well suited toward an anime and they're mixing the order of things up a little, so I'm sure they'll touch more on the siblings later.

Snail on my head ready to go.
The Coffin Princess - Reasonably cool and a interesting take on a techno-magic world. The female lead only speaking in sentence fragments might be annoying, not sure. Three episode test.

Magic Wars - Too saccharin for my taste. It's three minutes but its three minutes I don't care about. Out.

Mekakucity Actors - This one starts sideways and does a full 360 in the first episode. Weird and possibly great if it doesn't gently caress it up. In.

Nanana's Buried Treasure - Looks to be action packed, lets see if it delivers on the Indiana Jones promise. Three episode test.

Soul Eater Not - Seems to be trying too hard to put cameos from Soul Eater in, which aren't drawn exactly correctly. The plot seems a bit weak at this point, but could be a more personal look into this universe, if it can get out from under the baggage of parent series. Three episode test.

The Manga Artist and His Assisstant - Gross and not funny. Out.

I like the main dude's characterization thus far, though. He's basically a maladjusted ex-military guy whose only skillset revolves around being a magic ninja, so he jumps at the chance to be The Dark Knight so he can go back to stabbing people. It's not only legitimately interesting, but almost pointedly topical as well.

Yeah, it's working quite well so far! There's just some stuff they skipped over that really cements his character that I hope they cover. They could squeeze it in pretty much anywhere, even if admittedly it miiiight be a little too dark for the anime as it is... I'll probably just recommend the manga a bunch once it finishes airing. :v:

On the plus side, the show literally goes "This is skeevy, these are creepy, maladjusted, socially inept, megalomaniacal fucks".
On the downside, well, things, but gently caress it. This may be a trainwreck, but it's a pretty trainwreck, and I can skip the 30 seconds of boobgrope, and 30 seconds of bath scene to enjoy the rest of the episode.

Also also. Bad touch in KLK? Multiple times? Cough cough? That scene I'm fairly sure a lot of you sat through, and didn't alt-F4 out of?

Chaika is doing its part to fill this season's eyebrow quota, and the brother is at least potentially interesting, but I'm not really sold on it yet. The sister has had zero development beyond being weirdly obsessed with her brother, and the titular character just feels like a design by committee creation. Like some board of directors had a meeting that more or less went "Okay what do the lonely 30 year old single men kids think is moe cool these days? Little girls, big eyebrows, speech impediments, and magic anti-tank rifles? Alright slap that all in one package and ship it. Make preparations to count the money." She doesn't even seem like she's going to be all that relevant in her own show compared to evil Batman.

I don't know, I'll give it another episode, but I'm just not feeling it yet. I will say that most of the character/clothing designs remind me of Fire Emblem, but that's really not all that hard of a task.

Man, after finally watching episode 2 of No Game No Life, I was expecting a lot worse given reactions to it. Admittedly, I'm probably shamefully desensitized to fanservice sadly enough, but for comparison's sake, I will say the manga version of No Game No Life was a lot creepier that the anime version seemed pretty tame. Anyways, the comedy had pretty decent timing, and I still think there's elements of potentially decent story underneath it all so gonna just have low expectations and see if the show will trash its own potential or not. Chess game next episode should be fun and ridiculous.

Chaika continues to entertain even if it is a remix of Scrapped Princess. Fugitive on the run stories are always fun. It'll probably end up being fairly solid but generic in the end, but Scrapped Princess was like that too so it'll hopefully maintain decent quality from week to week.

Rapist protagonist? Certainly guilty of enslaving that girl, but the worst they've shown of him so far is trying to take a picture of her naked and squeezing when he comedy-fell onto her boobs, standard anime stuff. They've specifically contrived the story to explain why he has no intentions of doing anything rapey (he can't leave the his sister's side). I also got the impression that he was more interested in stealing the princesses resources rather than screwing her seeing as how he flipped out when he realized he could have just enslaved her rather than making her his girlfriend.

Of course the pedophile 11 year old fanservice complaint is completely valid, but hey man get it straight it's a show about pedophilia, not raping. That makes it a-ok.

The world does seem really interesting to me so I'm gonna keep watching it, though, and see if it's constant naked little girls or if that aspect gets toned down to, say, Zvezda levels. Sometimes shows frontload the fanservice to hook people.

I wouln't call it a trainwreck. Ignoring the skeevy poo poo and literal porn, I liked everything else about the show from the art to the mind games. But it's so unpretentiously skeevy and exploitative that I'm not willing to deal with it. Valverave is a spectacular trainwreck, while this is just trash on the sidewalk.

I was also expecting literally the worst to be flashing on my screen but instead I just saw a bath scene that was as tame as the one in Kure-nai and a dumb groping scene. If that's the extent of horrible fanservice then this show isn't anywhere near as terrible as the garbage that gets put out every season. I like the comedy too so I'm sticking with it.
