The cult used their time in Western Australia to plan the 1995 sarin gas attack in Tokyo: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo_subway_gas_attack Something about this desolate area being so remote that nobody notices what a bunch of cultist terrorists are up to. The seismic event was probably a natural phenomenon like an asteroid that disintegrated before impact, but the nobody knows aspect just gets to me. Like, the fact that it's even possible that a cult could be working on WMDs is pretty bizarre to consider. I read a pretty great article on how the cult thrived due to the culture in Japan following WW II, I wish I could remember who wrote it.

He was paroled for good behavior and for volunteering to test malaria treatments and lived the remaineder of his life trying to clear Loeb's name (again, see article) Ironically, upon his death, Leopold's corneas were donated. They never gave him luck, anyway.

The comet fragment just hosed with growing crops and hunting game, which caused a demand for food from far away, which caused the already existing plague to find new places to infect. The presence of comet dust just served to identify why so much dust was settling at that period, and the rest is connecting the dots. If it had been volcanic dust found in those layers, we'd look to possible links to volcano eruptions around that timeframe. The unnerving part is that many ancient cultures considered a comet an omen, and in this one case it did bring woe. Also, that nifty comet I saw as a kid has the potential to gently caress up the environment far more efficiently and faster than we can (and Lord knows, we try). One of the grisliest killers in a long time, kills Chinese student, dismembers the corpse and sends out the limbs to various Canadian political parties. Guys like this, at least in the past, tend to escalate so it was amazing, and fortunate, that he was caught relatively soon after his first murder. I think someone mentioned in the previous thread that he was a goon. True or not, it lead me to wonder if there were any other killers who frequented the forums. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Cunanan Andrew Cunanan seemed like a fairly successful and well adjusted gay man until he started to prostitute himself and appear in increasingly sadomasochistic pornography. The especially creepy touch about this guy isn't in mentioned in the article, but in a chilling piece of foreshadowing, he filled the space of his high school year book typically reserved for comments, memories and song lyrics with the quote from the court of Louis XV. quote:“…Apres Moi, Le Deluge…” He would go on a little killing spree, ultimately ending with the death of Fashion designer Gianni Versace (followed by suicide). The level of crimes that both of these guys committed, with seemingly little hesitation, premeditation or real motive (well one of Cunanan's seemed to have a motive), really creeped me out. I'm a true crime buff but I legitimately found these guys to be chilling. As for a creepy, recently captured, Serial Killer, we have Israel Keyes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel_Keyes Israel is unique in having killed over a long span (starting in the Early 90s and only ending around two years ago) with little to no victim profile and almost no media attention. This is largely due to the fact that there weren't many connections made early on between his crimes, both due to the differing profiles of the victims and their distance geographically. He also left behind a long and rambling suicide note.

Some have been identified, others are still unknown. One of the big mass extinctions before the dinosaurs (The ordovician-silurian extinction event) could have been caused by a gamma ray burst. Don't gently caress with nature.
