I saw CTTS last night which was a mistake. I've never been able to get into that band, and they played a loving 90 minute set. At least Loma destroyed again. They've really stepped it up lately, their shows are so intense now. EDIT: Also, if any of you haven't watched The Punk Singer yet (documentary on Kathleen Hanna) you should do that. It's streaming on Netflix. rivals fucked around with this message at 21:31 on Apr 27, 2014 |

Frameworks new tape "Loom" came out today. I'll need to give it a few more listens, but I'm liking it so far. No single song has beaten "Old Chokes" yet, though. You can stream the whole album here: http://www.stereogum.com/1677553/stream-frameworks-loom-stereogum-premiere/mp3s/album-stream/

It's pretty solid. Excited to see them at BLED Fest this year. Speaking of BLED Fest, they announced their schedule today if anyone is interested. Personally I'm trying to make all of these: 3:20 - Captain, We're Sinking 4:10 - The Saddest Landscape 4:35 - Old Gray 5:00 - Bane 6:35 - Self Defense Family (although I honestly don't get the hype. Maybe it will change this way.) 7:30 - Empire! Empire! 7:55 - The Menzingers 8:20 - Frameworks (their conflict with Dads is the only one that bugs me. I saw Dads last year though, so it's not the end of the world). Henchman of Santa fucked around with this message at 16:28 on May 1, 2014 |

I met someone recently who introduced me to the fact that Skinheads aren't the racist fucks I had been led to believe by the media in america. Bands like Skrewdriver soured me to the music back in the 90's something fierce. After a cursory glance at Wikipedia, I guess what I hated is now labeled as hatecore and RAC, but the poo poo I'm learning to really loving enjoy is Oi! and the gritty sounding pub/street music. She pushed me towards The Oppressed, Cocksparrer, Noi!se, and Templars. But I need more. Guide my hands, gentle goons. I'm ignorant as gently caress musically, the only other punk I've listened to is folk-punk stuff like Andrew Jackson Jihad, johnny hobo and the freight trains, Blackbird Raum, and Ramshackle Glory.

I loved the first album(well, if True Git is the same as the origina Cock Sparrer release), second album was pretty good, but the third sounded kinda meh..so I turned it off.

Cockney rejects are really good.

There's a comp from '80 called Oi! The Album that offers a pretty good overview. It's not my favourite scene, but obviously there's lots of classics bands in it: Cockney Rejects, 4-Skins, Peter and the Test Tube Babies, Angelic Upstarts, The Business, Anti-Nowhere League etc.

Early Dropkick Murphys has a lot of Oi! influence to it. Definitely check out their first two albums, Do or Die and The Gang's All Here. They also have some splits with other Oi!/skinhead bands, notably the Business and Agnostic Front. Also, Sham 69. They were one of the first, if not the first, Oi! band.

yo i don't know if any of you all have been to a show at the che cafe before, but it's an awesome space and pretty historically relevant to the music we're all into here. the venue is located on the USCD campus in san diego, and ever since the che's founding like 30 years ago the UCSD administration has done its best to try shut the place down. their latest effort is getting dangerously close to succeeding placing some of us SD punks in a bind. i hate just dropping in and shilling a petition, but we need some help and to try to boost the signal nationally! check out the summary detailed on this here link and if it suits your fancy then please sign! edit: also just so i contribute to the thread a little more, check these dudes out. they're on the same label menzingers and sidekicks used to release on. elway denzelflossington fucked around with this message at 06:45 on May 11, 2014 |

Just got back home today from one of the best live shows ever. No Omega + Birds in Row + Touche Amore in a school classroom without any regards to how loud it is, with the crowd constantly stagediving (which was ENCOURAGED). Not a fan of Birds in Row but No Omega and Touche Amore absolutely killed it. The singer from Touche could not stop loving smiling when people crawled up onto the stage and jumped off into the crowd. I did it a few times too The whole loving crowd (of about 200 people) was screaming along to all the tracks and oh god it was so amazing If you're in Stockholm area check out Stockholm Straight Edge, they organized the concert and it's really something different. It's the 2nd show they've arranged that I've been to (first was Deafheaven) and it's just unlike anything else. There's safe zones and the stagediving zone, all the patrons are super helpful if you fall down. Just be ready for being super soaked with sweat and some bruises day after. You're also almost guaranteed to get pics / signing with the bands if that's your thing. And they serve cookies and coffee edit: since it's straight edge you're absolutely not allowed to smell of any alcohol or be on any drugs. They'll refuse you entry
