Everything in these videos should be turning me away from this game, but for some reason I'm getting this incredibly desire to get this and the other Sherlock games and play them for myself. I suppose it seems kind of charming in it's own obtuse and plodding way.

You know, the weirdest thing is, it's having a similar effect on me. As much as I hate the long dialogue and inevitable fetch quests, the very few parts that are fun and the mystery element keep pushing me to play more, like some terrible gypsy curse.

I do actually recommend The Case of the Serrated Scalpel and The Case of the Rose Tattoo from the mid-'90s.

Infocom's Riddle of the Crown Jewels was passable, but not such a great Holmes game - you play Watson, and to make sure the player is the one actually doing things, Holmes immediately concludes that the criminal is specifically targeting him and puts you in charge of the investigation to throw him off the scent.

The Case of the Rose Tattoo also kind of sounds like a porno. Just using my detective skills to deduce when things sound like other things!

Hmm, I don't remember too many pointless fetch quests after this one. There is one puzzle coming up that will make you GameFAQs. I don't want to spoil anything, you'll probably recognize it when you see it, I just wanted to save some time for you with an early warning.

It's a pretty bad game, but I hope you'll suffer through it. The game also isn't Skyrim, there's no magical arrow pointing to your next quest objective. It expects you to pay attention to all its random dialogue, newspaper clips and other bullshit, and then use those to figure out what to do next. I'm just saying that it'll be over sooner if you guys play by its rules, right?

Also, the part where you tried to assemble the jigsaw puzzle sideways was goddamn hilarious.

Aww shucks, thanks so much for the kind words! We try to produce something we can be proud of so it's always nice to hear that someone else enjoys it.

While I feel like I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth when it comes to actual gameplay in this game, this game is really starting to reach for reasons to give you puzzles.

"Well of course this jar of hearts has two lids and both lids have combination locks and inside the jar is a magnet that you have to use to get a hook from under a pane of glass on a student's desk to retrieve a coded message from a hole in the very same desk. Where else is a doctor supposed to store his files: a locked cabinet?"

Oh yeah by the way: don't worry too much about an LP being "too short for a thread". Heck, there was even a Muscle March thread not too long ago that only had four videos.
As long as you plan to finish the whole game and the game makes sense for a thread (Like, I wouldn't make a thread for your Family Feud one-offs) you should be fine just going ahead and making a thread. The only real danger is that people may get a bit upset if you have, like, five different threads running simultaneously.

I don't know if you can make a Buster Busts Loose thread now, though, or if it would qualify as a youtube dump because you already have two videos up, but just something to remember for the future. :)

And thanks for the advice! I was pretty bummed that I made such a dumb mistake because I've been trying really hard to play by the rules. So yeah, I'll probably just take the loss on Tiny Toons. No big deal. :) I contributed to the Disney games megathread with Aladdin so that should do us for now!

Oh, these kinds of puzzles will be coming up in force. There's always some kind of box or a door with an irritatingly stupid combination lock, with convenient clues scattered all around it. It's like some CEO said 'Well, we're churning these Sherlock games out as fast and cheap as we can, so we might as well be lazy about it'.

What would happen if someone erased that heart diagram? I'm guessing Jack the Ripper would just keep killing prostitutes until the end of his natural lifespan.

What the gently caress Frogwares, as Holmes would say.

Edit: for consideration.

So Spiders, the developers behind this game, just released a new game: Bound By Flame. A friend of mine has been playing it and he mentioned that for a game centered around hitting monsters with swords and a flame demon trying to eat your soul, it has a lot of fetch quests. Spiders must have someone on staff who loves fetch quests.

In all seriousness, it's got to be that they're light on actual plot/gameplay and have to shove the games full of filler to make them worth playing. Like we've got plot points A, B, and C, but jack poo poo in between so GO DELIVER THIS HAT TO A MAN SO HE WILL GIVE YOU A KEY THAT UNLOCKS A BOX WITH AN ADDRESS INSIDE AND THAT'S WHERE YOU'LL FIND MY DRYCLEANING

Fetch quests are just so loving lazy. I mean you can make an argument that every quest is a fetch quest to a degree, but presentation is an important part of it. This game feels like people just did the bare minimum in terms of quest creation.

There are a few weird moments in this game where they shoehorn in Adventure Game Puzzles, and it is really out of place as you said. The thing is, it's pretty clear from their other games that that's a remnant of the older game design philosophy present in previous Sherlock Frogwares titles, because the next game lets you skip all the puzzles (they said in interviews that they realized players wanted to finish the game without being stuck on tedious code-breaking or whatever) and the upcoming game seems to have no traditional adventuring puzzles at all, just the deduction stuff. Now, I wouldn't call Testament a better game than Jack the Ripper, but it's clear that they wanted to transition away from having dumb fetch quests and 15 puzzles, and this game is part of that process as well.

I still like the deduction logic stuff though, it's nice.
