You can only be a second gunman if the first post of the new page ISN'T a sniper image. Otherwise you just get probated. Also, 39th post is safe if they post a spotter.

Comcast will tell you that it's downloading faster but it'll really be the same speed that it is now. You'll also be paying more.

I don't really have a great way of explaining this but the 'charge more for Netflix' thing is a business model from 10+ years ago and Comcast's silliness is going to run up against fiber and other new stuff on the landline side and on the other side from people increasingly consuming 'net media over mobile. So really in this context you should be worried a lot more about whoever's trying to buy T-Mobile, market penetration of the Wal-Mart phones etc etc. Comcast's really looking right now like the guys that wanted to put extra anti-copying fees on cassette tapes when everyone was buying CDs and MP3 sharing was just taking off; their cable business plan goes from bad to fuuuucked in the fairly near term and Netflix fees won't save them. Also lol at 'regulating like a utility', not only are our utilities an embarrassing travesty for a first-world country but these industries are already regulated out the wazoo and that accomplishes its primary purpose, which is keeping out competitors and maintaining regional monopolies. There's a crazy amount of money in a variety of redundant state and federal programs to cover psydude's fear that poors and rurals won't have internet; you would be shocked to learn they tend to be mismanaged, cronyist and ineffective, almost as if it's on purpose. I mean come the gently caress on it's not nearly as hard to give net access as people think. Someone should do an effortpost on this VA meltdown thing.

This is less a government regulation/free market thing and more a corrupt monopoly coupled by legislation by lobbyists thing. Which is of course not going to happen. Net Neutrality however is one of those reasonably clear cut things where there is no real argument on Comcast&friends side apart from lobbying money. There are plenty of countries that manage to regulate and manage internet infrastructure competently on both the private and public side. As for internet access, there is a marked difference between 56k modems, starbucks wifi and fiber. Especially on the business side. It's similar to roads and railways, a single lane gravel road won't cut it if you want there to be industrial/commercial growth. What's happened at the VA? It can't have gotten worse than it already was, can it? I figured with drawing down the wars they'd have some breathing room to catch up at least a bit?

First link from google news, someone could do a much better writeup: http://www.cnn.com/2014/05/16/politics/va-scandal/ quote:For six months, CNN has been reporting on delays in medical appointments suffered by veterans across the country and veterans who died or were seriously injured while waiting for appointments and care. The VA requires its hospitals to provide care to patients in a timely manner, typically within 14 to 30 days. They're currently in the deckchair-shuffling phase but this very well might cost Shinseki his job. It's not taking much digging to find more and more and more rot, although the chances of real reform are pretty low at this point. Note: Washington Times has really been the investigative drivers of this story (lol CNN, no planes there you dummies)

A lot of small and medium sized municipalities have been investing in their own fiber infrastructures in recent years, whether it be by buying up existing dark-fiber lines, or building new ones. With population densities increasing in all types of cities due to the general trend of ubanization, I don't think it's too far-fetched to predict that we'll begin to see low-cost, public fiber popping up all around the country. This was actually one of the things Google was hoping to spark, and it looks like it's beginning to take traction.

A great deal of my time was spent imploring my younger college aged employees to: major in something that involves math or physical science because the long term prospects are so much better, hurry the gently caress up and finish college and don't spend all your time on a beach smoking pot or get a girl pregnant. The cost of a fairly mundane college education has so far outpaced inflation that even the white upper middle class folks can't afford it without debt, especially if god forbid they have more than one kid. Most of the time you see college cost discussed, it's related to starting salaries of the grads. But (and I can't find the numbers at the moment) when you compare tuition to the parents' salary, it's gone in the last few decades from something like 2-3 months income to 2-3 years income to send a kid to get a 4-year degree. This gets way, way uglier when you start looking at the numbers differences between two- and one-parent households but that's also way beyond the scope
