Just use more pvc and dump ice/water around the tubing before it goes to the copper.

Next time I'm gonna use the wort chiller and put the kettle in an ice water bath (can't believe I didn't think of that yesterday).

The water inlet hose is kinda long, so I can probably put it in the ice bath too, just have to be careful about not letting it touch the kettle for the first few minutes so it doesn't melt.

i see i see... ages ago i got from deal extreme an led and i spent a bit of time tryin to find a matched "led driver" circuit which looks like it plugs into a two prong led/halogen socket and it's called a constant current driver or something, incan only presume that's the kind of thing you are talking about? i looked up the voltage and current of the led at the time and found a driver outputting those values.. is that the kind of thing that you're talking about? i think i understand now

what i am confused about is that those leds are 9-12v ... where is the ~3v voltage drop you are talking about coming from? just general semiconductor physics?

when i measure the voltage across the led it's 12.0v... about 0.3 less than what the power suppy is making. doesn't that mean there is a 12v voltage drop over the led itself? or am i misunderstanding what my
multimeter is telling me?

my next idiot spare time project is to build a stir plate for yeast starters.

$15-ish worth of parts to make my own vs $40 to buy one (and the commercial ones are almost always designed for 1L flasks; mine is 2L)
