I love St Vincent on record, but am I the only one who finds her current live choreographed schtick a little lame and cringey? You can tell she's been hanging out with David Byrne, but she doesn't really have the same charisma to pull it off and make it seem natural. I'm not hating too hard: her performance is awesome aside from that

Ps one of the performances is on YouTube if you're not in the UK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmnhY9Smj3M

This is the way I and a few friends felt after seeing her live. She sounds amazing on an album, but it doesn't seem to transfer over to a live performance very well. Her choreography is neat too, but it feels forced to me, like it isn't really her.

This is an opinion that baffles me, but fair enough. You don't like "From a Motel 6" or "Nowhere Near"? What do you think of Electr-O-Pura?

Shearwater toured with her, and covered Cheerleader on Fellow Travelers. Jonathan Meiburg had this to say about her performances:

Jonathan Meiburg posted:

I admire that song, but her approach to it—at least on the tour we did with her—was very mechanical. Everything was very sequenced and there were a lot of triggered elements in the set. It was amazingly consistent night after night. The way that she moves on stage is almost programmed. The feeling you have with her music—and I think it's intentional—is a robot that is on the verge of malfunctioning, which works really beautifully with what she's doing. I thought it would be fun to go completely the opposite direction with that song and imagine it was recorded by Neil Young during the Tonight's the Night era. So it would be a completely sloppy rock version of that song.

Yeah I guess that's what I meant. It's not necessarily bad, just a bit awkward and forced, like she's trying too hard to be 'weird'. Maybe that's the point though

Electr-O-Pura is good. I'm just always blown away at how good and how consistent MISWM is compared to it's critical/internet reputation. I assume people either haven't heard it or only listen to it once after reading about how average it is. It and I Can Hear...are the definitive YLT albums.

I'm with you on I Can Hear, and yeah I do think May I Sing With Me is underrated, but I've never thought Painful was boring.

I would add Fade to the canon, it's not only their best album in a decade but just plain one of their best albums period.

It's really incredible. I think it would be slightly stronger with one of the more samey tracks cut - maybe Suffering? - but otherwise I think it'll be my album of the year too.

They're from Poland and they're not well known so it's kinda hard to find anything, but it's weird that you don't see them on Spotify. I just checked and you can listen to their whole debut album (came out two weeks ago) called "No Bad Days". Here's a Spotify link, don't know if it will work: The Dumplings "No Bad Days". They're also on Itunes.

It's weird, I liked Slave Ambient a lot, but the latest is really in another league entirely. I could listen to the "woo!" before the guitars kick in in Red Eyes on repeat for a month alone. I agree to an extent - that ambient interlude track could probably be disposed of but since it's definitely an album I tend to listen to all the way through rather than flipping between songs I find that it works in context.
