Took possession of the Civic today. The hood is pretty hosed up. Engine bay is very clean except for leaves Door is dented. Also does not open from the inside or lock Interior is pretty clean, just needs a good vacuuming The worst of it, the rust Pretty good for $350. I might try treating and bondoing the rust. Front tires are horrible, getting those tomorrow morning and then off to the pick n pulls to find a hood and a door. Manual steering is rough.

The Something Awful Forums > Discussion > Automotive Insanity > I loved my $300 Buick and gently caress you if you don't My mother got some old rolls of film developed and these were in there. We had that burst of first-car nostalgia in the general chat thread so it's pretty good timing. These are from the day after I bought it in May '06, I actually had it looking pretty good about a year and a half in, until some rear end in a top hat butchered the door and then smashed the passenger's window to get the change in my ashtray. I find it odd that these things are starting to fetch real money these days, it's crazy that 8 years can multiply a car's value by 20 or so. I posted this guy in the hot hatch thread shortly after I got it and just before I hosed off overseas for six weeks. I've been home for a few days and I'm in love all over again. So ridiculous, so fast, and an absolute riot to drive. I'm yet to fully figure out the Command system, and wish the stupid screen were a touch screen, but whatever. I find myself going everywhere the long way and probably annoying everybody with the way I provoke all the hilarious noises it makes.

It's the baby AMG - the A45. Two litre turbocharge four cylinder, all wheel drive, 355 horsepower, and this will take it to 410hp and 413ftlb. Tempting!

How do you find the flappy paddle gearbox on the AMG? I test drove a regular 200CD 4matic version and it drove me crazy. Don't know if it's the diesel engines fault or what, but you had to pull the paddle like a second before you wanted it to shift. Also the interior felt cramped, I couldn't see out, but every new car feels like that.. I also might have overcooked the brakes a bit.

PCOS Bill posted:Sounds fun. What kind of fuel economy? Honestly, I have no idea. The trip computer never leaves "digital speedometer" mode because it's too easy to be travelling way too fast without any effort. I think I've filled it up four times (so it's used five tanks) in 1600km - so not wonderful, but I'm not driving it for economy either. The official figures are 6.9 litres per 100km, but I'm guessing the way I drive it I would be seeing closer to 15L/100km. Better than a C63, and better than the R36. I'll check the computer figures tomorrow - I just put it away for the night. Squeeze posted:How do you find the flappy paddle gearbox on the AMG? Also the interior felt cramped, I couldn't see out, but every new car feels like that.. It's the seven speed twin clutch thing. It's not as responsive as the six speed Volkswagen DSG in my R36. I mean, it can be, but it likes to hesitate a lot more on downshifts. Upshifts are lightning fast and on demand. I'm still getting used to it but I kind of like it. I only ever drive it in manual mode. None of this "comfort" or "sport" malarkey. Interestingly, unlike the VW DSG's I'm very familiar with, when it hits the rev limiter it doesn't change up. It cuts power and that can be a little disconcerting. Finch! fucked around with this message at 15:02 on May 24, 2014 |

gently caress man, I am still in love with your VW. I don't care how expensive anything on it would be, an absolutely amazing car. I suppose the cheap variant here in Adelaide would be a Stagea (urgh), but still.. one can dream! Also I love both of your cars.

I suppose the cheap variant here in Adelaide would be a Stagea (urgh), but still.. one can dream! R36's shouldn't be too expensive these days. If VW ever release an R36 successor I'm not expecting any more than about $28000 on the trade in, maybe about $5000 more if I were to sell it privately. Mine's six years old and has done only around 48000km. They depreciate like falling stones, particularly since mine doesn't have the reversing camera (VW Australia forgot to tell the factory to attach it) and missed out on the MY10 (I think) adaptive cruise control, upgraded instrument cluster, and dynamic suspension. Aside from routine servicing at a VW specialist, it hasn't cost me anything but tyres, oil, and fuel. Nothing has gone wrong with it and I think there's been one recall for some warranty work, but that's it. It does like to drink, though, and much like the A45 I don't drive it for economy. Why use 5th gear when 2nd will do? It's driven enthusiastically but it's always been treated sympathetically. We get a lot of sweet wagons here in Adelaide Bape Culture posted:I thought the a45 had cannards and a wing! It can. Here in Australia, that's one of three option packages we have. We get pretty much everything as standard, but have three - only three - possible options: black wheels (like I did), "performance" suspension (unnecessary outside track work), and the aero package with the silly looking wing and the front bits. I wanted to be a bit more subtle, hence the nearly complete debadging (there's still the Turbo //AMG badges on the side) and fairly boring colour choice. It still attracts a bit of attention, but it's hard to disguise the sound it makes so that's no surprise. Finch! fucked around with this message at 12:42 on May 25, 2014 |

Nerolus posted:I moved out of the city and joined a 2% Van club. Oh gently caress, what did I get myself into now? Update: Just got back from a 4 day camping trip across state. Convoyed with 6 other classic vans in our club and met up with 32 other vans, 80something people. One giant party, like some poo poo straight out of the 70's. Most of them are old timers, but some younger folks like myself have been getting their hands around some classics on their way to the crushers and saving them. New speakers, new radio, CB installed, tuned up, new classic turbine wheels, new fender flairs, chin spoiler waiting on some fiberglass repair. Also waiting to fix a few small rough spots on the paint before I stick the visor on. Cleaned out, still going to upholster the inside with new rug and build a fold out bed with storage underneath and a "cave" wall between the seat setup and the bed/seat in the back. Saved a vinyl diamond tuck overhead console from the junkyard as well. Nerolus fucked around with this message at 07:33 on May 28, 2014 |
