Are there any cool Tony Mitchell-esque players who will be around at 38 for Detroit. I'm holding out hope for a Lance Stephenson or something of that nature. I'd love to see them trade into the middle 20s of the first round and take Adreian Payne. Thanasis Antetokounmpo and PJ Hairston are intriguing at 38. What do yall say? From a casual fan standpoint, I feel like the Cavs drafting Embiid will end in a sad documentary about what could have been because he got injured. It's too terrifying for me. I feel that Parker will be fine, like Iguodala good but not good enough to lead a team through the playoffs. I think Wiggins is the most efficient pick.

Like I've said before, the thing that is amazing about Embiid is that everything is going "forward" all the time. He's so fluid; there's no catch ball STOP robotic move STOP go up STOP dunk. He's catching the ball and his feet and arms are already going into the motion of whatever he's doing.

Wiggins has T-Mac upside on offense and would make the most sense for the Cavs if they're looking for someone to contribute right away, but if they want to take the scoring load off Irving then Parker makes sense as well (and maybe they can flip their magical loving picks for Omer Asik or someone and roll with a pretty loving good frontcourt of Free Agent X (or Deng) - Parker - Asik). The Cavs really can't mess this one up.

Obviously, you don't need Embiid to become a hall of famer to justify taking him first, but when you have someone like Wiggins or Parker available to you, it seems to be in your best interest to take one of them than a guy who really hasn't proven anything yet and has just shown alot of (admittedly really good) tools. I'm not saying Embiid absolutely wont be a good, all star level player, I was mostly commenting on the Hakeem comparisons. If you're going to say that he will be Hakeem if he's not injured, and use your #1 pick in a loaded draft on him, then you're hoping he'll turn out to be better than Andre Drummond. Drummond is good, and may get better, but you're looking for a top 5 guy in this draft, and there's much less chance of that happening with Embiid than with Wiggins imo. And I'm also not saying that 19yr olds should be trapped in college for 4yrs or anything, I'm a big proponent of guys deciding to declare for the draft whenever they want.

If you're criticizing Embiid on his numbers, have you looked at his individual games? He didn't play a lot in the OOC, then got hurt with a couple of injuries at the end of the season, limiting his minutes. In the conference season, he scored in double-digits all but 4 times (11/15). Embiid did not shoot more than 10 shots in a game the entire season and still averaged 10ppg. A lot of this is from his foul trouble, but he was getting auto-double teamed the entire conference season. Is fouling a lot for a young post defender anything like a young point guard with a lot of turnovers? I know I've heard that it can be a good sign for a PG in development in the sense that it displays a willingness to play aggressively and test the limits of your game.

Is lateral quickness tests the best way to figure out if the guy's back is hosed? I watched a fair amount of Dwight in his Lakers run and he seemed alright on the first jump up, but he couldn't move side-to-side and his second jump for rebounds was slow, late.

It's not the end all test, but yes it's a good marker. Because back injuries really hurt when they're torqued laterally and you need to be seriously doped up to play through that pain.
