rope kid posted:Priests have at least one damage-inflicting spell available at every level. Priests also do not have to prep spells but, like druids, have all spells of a given level available all the time (assuming they still have casts/rest for that level). Maybe, I phrased it badly but, when I asked about possible offensive spells for a priest, rope kid didn't sound willing (I made it clear that I don't even dream of replacing the wizard class). However, I spotted some offensive spells in update 78. I'm not complaining, though. I won't argue against each class has its clear role and, personally, I tend to like specialist characters and I'm most likely to stick to a support priest. However, some room for versatility makes the chemistry between character build and party composition interesting, IMO.

Not much adventure, unless you count the ability to die as making it adventurous. e: Seriously don't even get me started on QfG I will talk until the heat death of the universe.

As far as I know QfG also innovated character importing into future games too so a direct forebear of Infinity Engine games. Totally on topic.

You actually had to import into the original version of 2 as it wasn't tuned for a new party. It assumed you were at least level 12. (Later versions let you make a new party if you had to.) You could then continue to import into Wizardry 3 from either of these previous games. Wizardry 1 came out in 1981, Wizardry 2 in 1982, and Wizardry 3 in 1983. If there's anything older that did it, I can't think of it. Prism fucked around with this message at 23:51 on May 27, 2014 |

I wouldn't be surprised if to the majority of backers, the most important thing is that the game is the best it can be, rather than release on time. If they want to take an extra couple of months for some polish (fix up quest content, bug fixing, animation/FX polish) I'm totally up for that. However perhaps making the deadline for the holiday sales period is a better decision sales wise, I'm not sure.

frajaq posted:What kind of weapon do Paladins use in this game? Are they shield and sword or can I go two-handed something ala Retribution from WoW You can use anything. http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Weapon Paladins are apparently best played in close proximity to other party members due to their close range auras. So you can play them in the front line with the melee characters or in the artillery lines with your wizard, cleric, ranger etc This game also encourages the rotation of equipment due to the different strengths and weaknesses of each damage type relative to the amount of armor (DT) enemies have. A Sword (which uses the best of slashing or piercing damage types) should be pretty good right up until the heaviest armors, where you may need to keep a crushing weapon (such as a mace) in reserve. I'm not sure you should attack people with plate armor with crushing weapons. Rope kid only mentioned a weakness for shock for plate armor. Mail Armor on the other hand has a large weakness against crush. What damage type is a dagger, pierce or slash?

Crush not good against plate?!?!?! The old thread (unavailable due to the database being down) had plenty of examples. The system may have changed overall but from what I remember, Crush is the best damage type no matter what when the DT values start getting higher. Now effectiveness vs armor seems to play into weapon speed as well with slower weapons being more effective against armor. There used to be a system whereby a 'weight class' was used. Slashing was best against no or low armor. Piece was best against medium armor and Crush was best against heavy armor, but overall damage vs DT did play a part as well.

Can you view the old thread? I can't. Anyway, perhaps it is now fully based on weapon damage and vulnerability, which would indicate favoring two-handed weapons against high armor. I wonder if a Mace is still better than a Sword vs Plate if you're going Sword and Board. edit: Daggers are Slash, Stiletto pierce. Sensuki fucked around with this message at 13:26 on May 28, 2014 |

Plate is least resistant to Shock damage, but if you're going to use melee weapons, estocs, stilettos, and maces all have DT negation and are usually your best bet on occasions where the target's DT is uniform against the physical damage types (Slash/Crush/Pierce). In both models (original and current), two-handed weapons are best when DT is really high. If DT is really high and the DT has no physical vulnerabilities (like plate armor), estocs are the most efficient.

Crush is mail's worst damage type and maces negate DT on top of that. With a mace against standard mail the target has close to 0 DT. rope kid fucked around with this message at 16:23 on May 28, 2014 |

The official wiki would be a good starting point to save some questions. The info revealed here seems to be already reflected/corrected, too (Nice job, thanks!). As for the update, I wonder if it is due to my ignorance or not but what is supposed to be contrasted between the upper and lower right images (both tagged as "Ambient Only") in the "ambient before and after" section? I'm not sure but shouldn't the upper right image be tagged as "Ambient system off. Directional lights off"? I tend to find 3D graphics in this type of games ugly, failing to match hand-painted pictures but, indeed, the devs seem to be making good efforts on naturally meshing 2D and 3D elements. Hopefully, it won't cost much resource, though. BTW, is that "wild" Aloth part supposed to be doing demonstrating dynamic cloth animation, which may explain the adjective?

# ? May 28, 2014 20:40 |

I'm not 100% on this, but I think that the wild Aloth part is because during the kickstarter there was concept art of a character named Aloth, who was then not mentioned until now.
