Black goat, silver knife, five black candles, full moon, midnight - right?

I haven't had to fight scsi (I've only really used SCA, in reasonably simple setups). I did however bring 10BASE--2 (Thinnet) to sleepovers and living room LANs in my early teens. I still like BNC connectors, but really really don't miss the terminators or the chain topology.

Edit: Beaten, I see.
For added content, the grounding issues you got were fun as well: the shielding on coax was tied to the ground of the connected computers, which made for electrical fun times if you first connected something improperly grounded , then, say, grabbed your own (grounded) computer and the cable to connect them.

I'm building around a 1800 sq foot house, and to put in cat5e with a 12 port punch down block with 1 ethernet port to each bedroom is currently $500. Having ethernet run to behind where the TV is going as well.

I don't know the going rate for this kind of work but I just did this myself and the 1000ft of wire, plates, and key pieces cost ~$175 off monoprice for cat6 stuff. Plus throw in a good drill, paddle bits, wire running fiberglass and a lot of my drat time since I did this blind with the walls up. Sounds like this is being done in a house that doesn't have the walls up yet though, which takes a lot less time (did this in college). Given all that eh $500 doesn't sound bad. $1000 for cat6 is just stupid though as others have said, 1Gbs is overkill for home unless UltraHD 16k or such happens.

I only went cat6 cause I plan on dying in this house and I imagine sometime in the next 40 years 10Gb switches are going to come down from their $7000 or so price. It was only a few extra bucks to get it over cat5 equipment sans the actual switch/NICs.

On the plus side I became very familiar with my house's crawl space. Ok it's not a plus but at least I know it's all good down there.

Both cat5 and cat5e can do 1000-BASE-T (which is gbit over four wire pairs). Cat5e and cat6 are also capable of 1000-BASE-TX, which is gbit over two pairs - but most things use -T anyway.

10gbit requires cat6 (max 55m) or cat6a (max 100m), though.

Going back a page or two, I actually own an SACD capable player. Its an older Sony 5 DVD carousel. I use my bluray player for movies now anyway but I've always wanted to find a few good SACDs to try in it. My stereo is a mish mash of old and new speakers and components that works really well for what it is.

Can anyone recommend any good SACDs to try?

That sounds ok, but the guy is either buying his cat6 from the wrong place , or he's ripping you off. Maybe ask if you can supply the cable, or just suggest a cheaper supplier to him.
Some contractors will just buy everything from the same place without taking a second to compare prices.

I think it's been a set price for the guy for the last 6 years, so he never changed it. It's actually done very well, with a cabinet and everything. I looked at other houses he's done it to. I'm pretty sure he quoted me the extra cause he's never purchased cat6 before. Good call with asking if I buy a spool and see if he can just do it.

I once sent a cassette to the Soviet Union and when it reached the recipient a few months later there were only faint sounds audible on it because it'd been listened all to hell by the police so yeah not a joke.
