Ok gippers. It's dog shopping time. What's the best way to pick em? I don't want one that will be bouncing off the walls of a one bedroom apartment, but I don't want a sloth either. I figured I would go to a rescue center or the pound and the first one I have that connection with I would take home.

heres one just for you gip on this 70th anniversary of d-day quote:Seventy years ago, on June 6, 1944, two American servicemen—preparing for the D-Day landing—attached a miniature life vest to a puppy. This Kodachrome footage was, I believe, captured by Hollywood director George Stevens or by a member of his U.S. Army Signal Corps film unit.

Pound dogs are likely to be mutts but you can usually get an idea of what breeds they mostly are, and google what their likely personality / apartment living compatibility will be. The good news is that the more mutty they are, the less inbred and the less likely to have weird breed-specific health issues they'll be. Some rescue places are really breed-specific and others just offer whatever, it depends on what you're looking for / what your budget is. I prefer mutts over fancy-shmancy purebreds but that's me.

There was a big fire up in Alaska and some firefighters heard some yelps where they were fighting the blaze. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NEFYpmIf7s They were named after the crew's name and hometowns who rescued them.

This is Doolie, my parents' dog. I'm taking care of him for the week while they're on vacation. They got him when I left for college, and he turned 12 this Spring. He's had ACL surgery on both hind legs. He lost a lot of weight after the last surgery, he's down to under 80 lbs and is basically skin and bones. We've been trying to fatten him up with treats and meat and eggs. The patch they shaved off for the epidural hasn't grown back in over six months, and probably never will. His daily activities include sleeping in the shade when it's hot and sleeping in the sun when it's cold, and mustering up the energy for a 1/4 mile walk twice a day. He still fetches the paper every morning, and gets very angry if you try to help him, even if he's out of breath by the time he gets back. He's a good boy.
