Epi Lepi posted:Anyone got any recommendations for something in the vein of Dinosaur Jr, Pavement, and/or Built to Spill. I've got everything by Yuck, Cheap Girls, Screaming Females and Hebronix which is what I'm looking for, but I haven't come across anything else recently and I'm craving some new crunchy guitar rock. I'd recommend White Lung, Ought, Perfect Pussy and (a bit more experimental) Swans. And the new Parquet Courts album is very reminiscent of Pavement in contrast to their previous album. White Lung and Parquet Courts should be up you street.

New Zealand trip-hop/psychedelic band Doprah finally put out their EP. Have seen these guys live (as a 6 piece band) a few times and they're excellent. Dancey/ambient beats with effects laden vocals, Whatever You Want is a highlight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j08bBIKBeK8

Hi friends, I've really been enjoying the new album by Circulatory System, titled Mosaics Within Mosaics. I recommend buying the album on the Cloud Recordings website here: http://www.cloudrecordings.com/order.html The music on Circulatory System's albums may actually be my favorite music ever, and I think Mosaics Within Mosaics deserves a way higher rating than the rating given by the Pitchfork reviewer.

I kind of appreciate Spoon's Cake-like dedication to continually releasing the same song for 3 decades now, but "Rent I Pay" is really not very good.

Rent I Pay actually kicks rear end, and Spoon have been one of the best bands in rock music for a decade. Also Transference was a great album and nobody appreciated that either. I also liked Divine Fits, even if it was just Dan Boeckner and Britt Daniel doing Dan Boeckner and Britt Daniel songs.

I'm just saying, listening to "Telamon Bridge" and "Rent I Pay" side by side, I don't know if anyone could tell you which one is almost 20 years old and which one is brand new. In fact I'm listening to "Telamon Bridge" right now and I like it way more than I used to, probably because it has the decency to only be 2 minutes long.

Death from Above 1979 premiered a new track called "Trainwreck 1979". It isn't as harsh sounding as some of their older stuff, but it's still very much a DFA1979 song: http://pitchfork.com/news/55811-death-from-above-1979-share-trainwreck-1979/

I'm a big fan of RAA and dig this track, but it occurs to me that they would be a much less interesting band if their drummer wasn't so amazingly good. Also a new We Were Promised Jetpacks song from their upcoming third album. I really like their first album, but never really got into the second. Not sure if the comparisons of the new album to Cold Play and U2 in this article are legit or just because they're from the same area of the world. http://music-mix.ew.com/2014/07/08/we-were-promised-jetpacks-find-safety-in-numbers/ Duck Rodgers fucked around with this message at 18:50 on Jul 8, 2014 |
