I just recently got into this game and it's pretty fun. Saw there wasn't a thread for it so I figured I would make one. What is Something Awful Strategy It is a tabletop minatures game based on Warhammer 40k, but much more cheaper and simplier to get into. The game only came out recently, but the starting 3 factions do have a lot of variety between them, and some even have subfactions. If you don't want to spend money on minatures there is a free to play video game with the same rules. Its what I mostly play. The video game verison is already pretty popular in e-sports. Factions I'll fill this out more later, just including the basic info for now. GBS: Low cost low health units. Their poo poo posters are the cheapest combat unit in the game and on their are pretty weak, but a mob of them can buff each other up and can easily overwhelm their opponents. Their hero units are pretty decent. Good for beginning players. subfactions - E/N Has a lot of hero units that gain more powers the more they take DMG. If you are reckless field these. - Nite Crew Decent hero units I guess. Interesting thing is most of these units are mercs and can be fielded in other factions, for a bit more of a cost. BYOB: BYOB is a tricky one to play, mostly ranged and deals with debuffs. A control style faction, it takes a while to get going, but their hero units are the most rewarding with their AOE chill based powers. Games: Low health units like GBS, but much faster and at more of a cost. These guys are weak though, so it favors aggressive players who can shut down their opponents before its too late. subfactions - LP Contains the only noncombat hero units in the game. These guys stay in your base and add passive bonuses. - Traditional Games Hero units have dice based attacks that are a bit random. FAQ Q. Why is my Lowtax (hero unit) doing nothing? A. Lowtax starts with zero morale. Mangosteen can get him up and running quickly but not for long. You are going need to save up resources for a forum announcement, then use it to get more subscribers for Lowtax (Subscriber rules can be found in the LP guidebook) This will raise his morale, slowly.

as a lead developer, i would like to preview the yospos faction. yospos units require a unique resource: cat(te)s. managing ca(tt)es is critical to having an effective 'pos fighting force. as an example of what happens without managing (c)a(t)t(e)s properly, units that lack c*a*t*t*e*s altogether have a 50-50 chance of committing suicide during the maintenance phase. notable heroes: yospos will have no hero units but can borrow fyad heroes. units near fyads will need lots of catt(es) to keep from attacking them repeatedly

But a few more expanisons (DLCS if you are playing f2p) are planned before hand, including The Finer Arts and Discussion updates, though most of the new forums will be mercs and only a few, like Debate & Discussion, will be new factions and subfactions.

imho there should be a faction for tfr and probably also pyf and samart all minis for the adtrw faction should be coated in a highly toxic poison that instantly kills the player

i don't really like playing e/n units, they don't really seem to have a cohesive vision. it's like the designers never quite decided on what to do with them; sometimes you have to be passive and sometimes aggressive. pretty confusing passive aggressive playstyle. also, you might want to start painting up your ralp minis. word is their going to buff him with some ability to insta-kill any fyad units/the entire field. don't know how they'll balance it.

The main designer behind those had a breakdown halfway through designing those units, I think that is why they are all over the place and not well put together.
