I don't want to poo poo up the thread, I just had to put my other dog down. I've realized that this is going to be the first time in over thirteen years there isn't the pitter-patter of padded paws and claws on the kitchen floor, a cold nose and a tail thump to welcome us home, whimpers when dreaming, or barks and yelps when playing. gently caress this sucks.

Because many people have dogs as an accessory rather than a companion. I've grown up with boxers and we cropped the ears on about half of them. Anecdotal but it generally seemed the cropped ears pups had less problems with ear troubles and whatnot and were generally easier to keep clean/take care of. So theres that, but the overwhelming majority do it because it makes them look mean and intimidating. When I see the dobie with the uncropped ears, it almost makes me instantly think of hound dog and not Doberman. The cropped ears, you know exactly what it is when you see it and think "That dog could rip my throat out if he had the inclination". This is despite the fact that nearly every single Doberman I've ever encountered being among the most sweet, gentle slobberpooches EVER. I need to post pictures of my neighbors Dobermans who will just flat out lay on you if given even the slightest possibility to do so.

I was witness to a coworker's husky getting hit by a van going last week- most awful noise I've ever heard an animal make. Good news is he's tough as hell- had a concussion, collapsed lung, internal bleeding, blood pooling on one eye socket, and "severe muscle bruising". Somehow he didn't break a single bone and was released after 48hrs. Tests and blood work came back clear, looks like he's going to make a full recovery! Moxie got spayed last month, and she's getting huge:
