I'm dogcrash truther, and I love BYOB. I want it to be the best BYOB it can be. I care a lot and think caring is cool, and I have lots of thoughts about posting.

I think BYOB should be an inviting place to post. If you are a lurker, or a first timer to BYOB, when you look at the threads, you should think "hey, I want to read and/or post in those." A good thread is an invitation to play, or chat, or make jokes, or create, or give your opinion. If you need an example, look at pretty much any thread started by WetNightmare. The fitness threads are also good. They've been chugging along under their own power, drama free more or less, for months now.

I also like content. I like it when people create something and invite others to create with them. There are some good examples of those threads too, but I don't know what they are because I don't actually like those threads. I mostly think they are lame. But they are good, too, even though they're lame, because they invite people to have a good time and collaborate. You know what I'm talking about: the XCom thread, Sid posting his garfeld comics or whatever.

When you put the name of a poster in your thread, or when you make a vanity thread with your own name in it, your thread is not inviting. It says "if you don't know who this egotistical fucker is, this thread is not for you." Many of these threads are pointless. A person clicking on them doesn't have anything to do because the thread wasn't created to bring joy to others and build community, it was created for a clown to post in, at the circus. I do not like these threads.

When a thread is about nothing, that is when drama starts, because many people in BYOB have broken brains and souls. I'm not judging. BYOB is a fine place for sadbrains and jerks. It's just an observation. Because of this, BYOB posters in nothing threads are like children sitting around in an empty room, waiting for something to stupid and pathetic and harmful to happen, and it will.

I also don't like threads about stuff that happened in IRC. You shouldn't have to be in IRC to enjoy the delicate forums aroma of BYOB.

Pornography is inviting, but it invites the wrong kinds of people. I do not like porn threads and posts.

At this time, I do not have a probate button, so I could not probate people or request bans even if I wanted to. I can, however, gas threads and change titles and sticky threads, and I might start doing some of that. If I do, the above considerations will probably be a good guide as to why I did what I did.

Ok then.

cruft

I'm going to be perfectly honest here. I've been coming here for 2 weeks or so. I pretty much stopped all activity in GBS when I found BYOB, thanks to Widestancer, and I've been having a fun time, mostly, except for when the racism flares up.

DCT, I have no idea where I fall on your "good/bad poster" thing. I feel like probably I tend toward the sort of thing you don't like. I also feel like you're not fond of me, and this makes me nervous.

I made a thread called "BBQ at cruft's house" that I thought was pretty inclusive and fun, but had my name in the title. I found out later that some people really don't like threads with peoples' names in them; including, apparently, you. So I felt bad about that thread.

I also started replying honestly to the relationship/dating advice thread, and I got the feeling that you really strongly disliked that I was getting people to open up.

I've made a couple other silly/stupid threads that seemed moderately popular, but I feel like probably not things you like either. I also made a thread with a "The Science of Suck name generator", which seems like the sort of thing you would like since it's creative and goofy, but it felt kind of mean and petty to me at the time and I wasn't really happy about it.

So all in all, what you're spelling out here makes me think this isn't where I should be in the future? That's okay; if you want BYOB to be something I'm not interested in, there are many other places I can go. I just hope you try to let me know without trying to score a sweet burn at the same time.

Not asking you to rate me as a poster or anything, just laying out my honest reaction to your manifesto.

End of serious post.
