Also, for the guy asking for folk metal, Finsterforst is decent (pretty much a ripoff of Moonsorrow's later stuff)

than another footnote on a postcard from nowhere,
another chapter in the handbook for exercises in futility
The two acts I always rec when asked for black/pagan/folk stuff are Myrkgrav and Horn. You may not like the underproduced nature of the latter but the music is more than worth delving into. And that Myrkgrav is still unbested, in my opinion, as far as this subgenre goes.

edit: I should clarify that nothing since that Myrkgrav album has been as good. Bergtatt is pretty much the peak.

further edit: duh, Vintersorg's Odemarkens Son.

I don't know that I'll ever do another Philly show after 4+ hours on the road driving back from Behemoth. Unless I was staying up there, I guess.

Has anyone mentioned how good the new Misery Index album is? It's really good. Adam Jarvis is the most impressive live drummer I've ever seen.

Can someone recommend me some non-cheesy Folk, Pagan or Black Metal bands with an epic sound like, for example, Primordial?

I really like the Folk Metal atmosphere, but I just can't stand poo poo like those campy synth bagpipes most Folk Metal bands seem to love. :geno:

I've been digging this new LP by Obsequiae, It's got a pretty folk metalish vibe, but way better than any actual folk metal. But, I also hate the vast majority of anything that even approaches folk metal so I might not be the best recommender.

Anciients could be some pretty good driving music for your journey, and seconding the Kyuss

actually all the boring desert parts of the drive just blast thrash to go fast.. or Karl Sanders to chill and imagine you're somewhere in the middle of Egypt
then when you hit the mountains put on Devin Townsend - Terria and Synchestra

this topic makes me sad right now because both my front speakers in my car weren't working today :(

Drove up to Omaha to catch Agalloch last night, fantastic show. They had a great atmosphere and kind of bounced between the new record and Ashes, with some Marrow and a couple older jams. I'm glad I made the trip, that's one more ban to cross off my bucket list.

I'm going to their show in Denver tonight, they put on an awesome show when they came through for their Faustian Echoes EP, glad to hear it's another good one. I'm just glad they came back to Denver, last time the jackasses at the venue started tearing down the stage before they could play their encore, and then started shoving everybody out the door.

Yeah, it was a pretty great show. I liked when the drummer called out a song request.

Thrones wasn't terribly interesting for me, I'm not into ambient stuff. Got pretty intense at parts, though.
