What is this poo poo? Cyber Nations is a persistent online JavaScript-based nation-state simulator. Set up your own country, levy taxes, spend taxes, build projects, join alliances and fight wars. The official forums have role-playing up the wazoo. Why should I care? Because once you get into it, it's hella fun and even mildly addictive. In past nations I've run in this thing, I have gained immense satisfaction from crushing another nation I've gone to war against and looting millions of dollars in equipment and resources. Since the game only allows you to do some things once a day, the action can slow right down into a 'check once a day then ignore' kind of thing. As timewasters go, though, it's better than many other browser games I've played, especially Facebook offerings. Your last LP sucked my balls. It did, and I'm very sorry. I'll never suck that badly again, I promise. So how are you going to do this? I have a good idea for that: I'll present each post in the form of things like news articles, government and military documents, etc. I might even record radio broadcasts, since I have some experience in community radio and other media. I'll make some pretty graphics for stuff like the national flag (since you can't do custom flags in the game itself) and other things. The level of input depends on the type of government the nation has: a democracy/republic will require votes, an absolute monarchy will have royal advisors, a dictatorship will just plow ahead and do whatever, capitalist government might have a board of directors or even a Corporate Congress (a la Continuum), and a transitional government will have any combination of the above. Anarchy (which happens under certain conditions) will result in the password to the account being posted and anyone can just have at it until stable government is re-established. Since there's very little to show in the way of actual game play (mostly it's just click click click done), the interactive parts of each post will act as a substitute. Each update will have links to both the nation's factsheet and a post on my games LiveJournal containing government information on things like improvements, projects, etc. The rest of the post will have news articles and government bulletins to keep you informed of the nation's progress. Right now I've started an account (as was suggested to me in the Sandcastle) with all the basic things a Cyber Nation needs. All that remains now is to turn the current transitional government into a more permanent ruling body, and to do that, we need votes. Corporate Congress Someone said this game was about watching numbers get bigger. The only number I want to see getting bigger is our money. I want our fingers in every pie. I want us funding wars and profiting from them. I want us loaning to developing nations and then squeezing every penny out of them once they become profitable. I want us pulling crap that would make Rothschild conspiracy theorists salivate. In debt to no one, we will bow only to the whims of our golden idols. Rangefell Central News - Friday, 11 July 2014 Corporate Congress Formed, Senior Company Representatives Sworn In The conclusive results of the poll, showing the narrow preference for capitalist governance over a military dictatorship. Source: Transitional Council GOON CITY - Senior company representatives appointed by the top ten business entities friendly to Rangefell were sworn in to the new Rangefellian Corporate Congress this evening. The result of an eleventh-hour gambit by the now-defunct Transitional Council to save the fledgling nation from a terrifying slide into despotism, the new multi-entity government promised an era of unimaginable wealth and prosperity that would leave the old country dumbfounded. Takehashi Getsuya, founder and CEO of Getsuya Corporation, made the following statement during his inaugural speech to the Corporate Congress: "Someone said this game was about watching numbers get bigger. In debt to no one, we will bow only to the whims of our golden idols." Numerous shareholder-citizens in Goon City are gearing up in anticipation of Getsuya's next board meeting, in which they will have the opportunity to petition the company to invest in civil infrastructure. Meanwhile, Bionique Medical representatives have announced plans for an initial outlay for Goon City's first hospital, a state-of-the-art facility made available via shareholder-citizen and employee insurance plans. Meanwhile, the toxic spill that occurred earlier today has not escaped Corporate attention, however representatives appear reluctant to act. RCN was unable to reach the Corporate Congressional Environmental Services Office for comment.

Woot! It'll be put to good use. Rangefell Central News - Monday, 14 July 2014 Getsuya CEO Announces Civil Infrastructure Investment Getsuya CEO and senior Corporate Congress representative Takehashi Getsuya announced today the Congressional approval of over ten million dongs for civil infrastructure development. Mr Getsuya said that the earmarking of funds was, like all government expenditure, "a carefully analyzed and supported investment by the Rangefellian government aimed at increasing the number, and standard of living, of shareholder-citizens within our budding nation". Meanwhile, Bionique Medical has secured ƌ100,000 to build two small clinics, which will later support Goon City's first major hospital. Goon City Labs Opens Doors To Cutting Edge Research Corporate Congress entity Terra Australis Research announced the construction of a ƌ95,000 industrial research facility in Goon City's newly-zoned industrial park, signalling a tenfold increase in the nation's technological index. TAR representatives told RCN that further funds may be earmarked for scientific and industrial research by the Corporate Congress in the near future "to provide for sustained, market-driven technological development". Bionique Opens First Clinic Lacey De Santa, Bionique's junior representative to the Corporate COngress, cut the red ribbon and opened the doors of Goon City's first medical centre just moments ago. The clinic, which accepts all government and other private entity insurance plans, will be able to accommodate the needs of up to 100 people at a time. "Shareholder-citizens can breathe easy now knowing that their medical needs are being met by Bionique," Ms De Santa told RCN. "Thanks to the generous start-up funds from Corporate Congress, we've been able to plan and build quite a large facility aimed at keeping corporate employees and their families on their feet and minimizing time spent off work".

Rangefell Central News - Tuesday, 15 July 2014 Tech Boom Leads to High Literacy, Promising Tax Windfall Exorbitant spending on scientific research by Terra Australis has led to a skyrocketing literacy rate, experts claim. Preliminary real-time data gathered in the lead-up to the first national census shows the hefty investment by TAR in research and development has improved the levels of reading and writing. The primary factor, the Chief Statistician claims, is the requirement of TAR and other government entity employees to take company-funded reading and writing classes in order to improve productivity, decrease the frequency of human error caused by illegible writing or typographical errors, and improve the company's public image. Rangefell's initial population statistics show a whopping 86.69% of the country's 2,385 citizens are currently literate at the UNESCO adult standard for continued education and employment. Economic experts have affirmed that the newfound ability to read and write at such a high level will have a knock-on effect on Rangefell's economic performance as Corporate Congress companies accept newly-educated employees, allowing them to enjoy a higher standard of living.

OK, here's my plan, dubbed Operation Respawn: 1. Put Rangefell in peace mode ASAP. Do not leave it again until basic defences are established. I ramped up the tech level earlier so we could have top level toys right off the bat. 2. Romeo Charlie goes on the military's poo poo list. Obviously that's a given. I've surrendered for now, but once we've built up enough strength (which, barring any foreign aid, is going to take forever), bad things will happen to Rump Cheese. 3. Kick off a war that will make this LP infinitely more interesting.
