I liked Bone better when it was more Looney Tunes and less LoTR. Don't get me wrong, its all worth reading. But still.

The big climax is on a whole different level in terms of impressive visuals, though. Goddamn.

Criminal Minded posted:Anybody here have a MUBI account? How's the streaming quality? Can I stream through my PS3? I use it and the video quality is generally pretty good. For newer and higher-profile stuff they sometimes have 720p video, but it's usually DVD-quality at the very least. There is a dedicated PS3 app for it, actually, but I haven't used it myself. And actually just checking on it, that app isn't available in the US anyway.

Yes. I feel like whatever boat that movie was supposed to be on, I missed it a long, long time ago. If I watch it now, I'll probably hate it. I saw half of it, and it was good, but nothing super engaging. I feel bad when I read Badass Digest, a site that is pretty much almost always running stories about women and how they are portrayed in films, gushing over Frozen and The Hunger Games being game changers and I just feel totally disinterested in them. Katniss is a good character...but she's literally the only thing I enjoy about those movies. Eh.

Frozen is really mediocre, but is saved by the stunning animation and a few catchy songs. Kind of sad The Princess and the Frog didn't get nearly as much love since it's a near perfect story (and has the great animation and songs to boot).

It's unfortunate that some people will probably (understandably) never watch Frozen now that they've had its marketing crammed down their throats, because I think the subtext is brilliant and deftly handled. It also made me love something I was certain I was going to hate: Olaf the snowman looks punchable as hell, but turns out to be a great source of dark comedy (well, dark for a kid's movie, anyway).

You people think you're sick of Frozen? Hahaha you have no idea! I have a 5 year old daughter. I loving breathe Frozen's foul odor! Let it Go is the most played song on my phone. I waited in a line at the Disney store in the mall surrounded by houswives to buy Frozen Barbie dolls. I've drawn more pictures of Olaf than I can count. In fact just reading other people talk about it is making me hear songs in my head. No. I do not want to build a Snowman! Honestly though it's not that bad. As a film. I like it ok. I just want a break from it. Also unrelated. Female Thor. Black Captain America. Anybody think they're doing this so they can change actors in the movies if they get too uppity? Theoretical question: let's say you'd started dating someone who had recently had an autobiography published. Do you get a copy and read it?

Anyone who does an autobiography before age 35 is either nuts, or admitting they plan to do nothing more with their life.

I think I've mentioned this the last time we were talking about Frozen, but anyone who enjoys animated films should check out the 1957 soviet version of The Snow Queen, which is a more straightforward adaptation of Andersen's fairy tale and strongly inspired the young Hayako Miyazaki.

A friend and I have been discussing how movies age and whether or not they “hold up” after a period of time. We’re at an impasse – he thinks “Smokey and the Bandit” is passé and clichéd, while I think it’s the best drat “American” comedy every made. Beer, fast cars, and Sally Field. Doesn’t get more American than that. I could show that movie to nearly anyone in the world and I bet they’d enjoy the heck out it.

Yes, and especially when they are in the room. Then you laugh and giggle the whole time. When they ask you what part you just read, you just wave your hands in the hair and say nothing.

I was hoping something else would come along by now but it's been kinda dire for kids movies lately.

I saw Frozen with my sister, then went on a date with a girl where I pretended I hadn't seen it before. I liked it enough to see it twice since it's so drat pretty. That being said, how it became this huge thing is kind of beyond me. It's good, but I don't understand how huge fandoms and stuff can emerge from one 90 minute movie.

I can guarantee you people flipped their poo poo just as much about Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast and all that stuff, there just wasn't a Youtube for people to post their song covers and a Facebook for them to post cosplay pictures all over the internet. If a fandom doesn't have their own Tumblr, do they make a sound?

Frozen was about as good as a Disney princess movie could be but it is a genre that I don't have much interest in and that song with the trolls or whatever was godawful.
