I and everyone else in the world knows the Romans didn't make up the term Palestine out of whole cloth (and if you'd bothered to read that fragment of Ovid's Fasti, you'd realize the Ottomans weren't the first to use the term for a wider geographical region); regardless, that's the proximate place the Brits got the word from. You were wrong in assuming they were making their own pun about the Philistines to spite the Jews. Wrt. "Jesus", the Romans aren't the ones to blame for that - "IESV" and its various declensions as pronounced by a first century speaker of vulgar Latin isn't pronounced much differently than the original Aramaic. The "J" sound and the vowel changes came about due to the same Tudor sound shift in English that rendered the tetragammaton as "Jehovah".
