Its a fair point. Nibali is clearly on the top shelf stuff.

If he is, it's nothing new. He got top 10 at the TdF in 2009 and a GT podium every year since then. Given the current field, there is nothing surprising going on here.

Nibali looks lean as hell. Valverde always looks old and tired, so who knows with him.

This. Traditionally Nibali has not been able to follow the attacks of Froome or Contador or Wiggins(in 2012), they have always been in a different league. As a result Nibali's performances have usually seemed to remain within the bounds of reality and as such people are more inclined to believe. Also he's not a complete prick riding for a dick head team.

They arent asking because there's nothing that remarkable about Nibbles performance so far. Weak GC field, previous winner of the Giro and the Vuelta, no real suspect times up climbs. Every pro athlete is on something but this time at least it's not some special Sky superbrew.

The best thing about this Tour is watching Sky come apart :D

Anyone else see Nibali grab a regular water bottle and get a quick gulp before tossing it? While he was still in that group of 3.

Not sure about the "no bottles for the last X km" rule, but the corresponding rule for the start of the stage has been waived or reduced the last few days due to the high temperatures.

Let's get a little crazy. Let's have some fun.
I think there's concessions if the temperature's over a certain point like 30°. Don't know what the letter of the law is though.

dema
Aug 13, 2006

Vast majority of the rule violations just result in a minor fine for the team. If anything at all.

Yeah, the commentary talked about this during the race yesterday, because of the high temperatures the rules were changed a bit to allow riders some refreshments.

Like everyone said, if it's hot they wave the rule. On this stage riders were allowed to take on water but only from the side of the road and not from team cars (so there are no sticky bottles on the last climb).
