I thought the Forty-Nine was pretty neat as far as retro styling goes. Beats the PT and the HHR, at least.

Speaking of the Miura, I added one to my die-cast collection today.

It's actually modeled on the GAZ M20, that there looks like when someone turned a BMW 6 series into a GAZ m21, with far better results.

The impressive(potentially fatal?) part of the white one is that i looks like they actually stretched the wheelbase. unfortunately, even after all that work, he didn't swap out the wankel.

Apart from the rims and the steering wheel she was stock as far as the eye could see. :swoon:

Also had a Nismo plaque on the side so I thought it might be something special but the Nismo sticker on the back isn't period correct and it's missing some lip spoilers if it is.

Hope the owner doesn't leave it out like that a lot, those things are pretty high up the list on thefts per year.

Unless maybe it's owned by the dealer, and he just trots it out every once in a while to show off his dealership? Which might be even worse, I hate when cars get mothballed.

Luckily car theft isn't a big threat here in Japan, not to say that it doesn't exist but at the same time people will gladly leave their keys in the ignition with the engine on while they pop into the convenience store for cigarettes.

No idea on the mothballing, I've been by there a couple of times and not noticed it before though.

I spelled 'network' wrong.
On the way down to the outlets we stopped in Palmetto FL at a great breakfast spot called Norma Rae's. I took the restless kids out for a walk and across the street was an old drive-in/car club/junk yard that had a fairly eclectic mix out front:

Apart from the strobes in the grille and the small black antenna on the trunk, it is pretty much impossible to differentiate between this and a regular NYC cab. I've seen them also do this with Nissan Altima cabs.

Example:

Here's a pic of the rear end end, but you can see on the trunk:

This is the interior of the Altima. They even went so far as to install a fare meter on the dash:

Turns out the local car club (I'm in Poznan, Poland) has a little display section in the city center shopping mall thing. I took some pictures. Apologies, they're phone pictures and some of them are blurry. I just completely stumbled on it while waiting out the rain. I didn't take notes as to what most of the cars were, but a lot are very recognisable, and for others, you guys may as well have some fun playing identify the car.

Hansa something. Sweet vents on the sides of the front.

Some kind of Firetruck from Auto Union.

Czech car. I believe the company was called Aero, though I might be mistaken about either of these. I want one.

Polish Fiat from 1937. Apparently Poland has a far longer history of building modified licensed Fiats than I thought.

Behold the majesty of 50s :poland: cars.

I like the grille.

More Polish cars.

The FSO Polonez. I grew up riding in one. It was a 70s shitbox, and a Fiat 125 underneath. Body styled by Giugiaro, apparently, though I always thought it looked crap. But it was scary fast after an engine rebuild Dad did at one point. Rally versions were pretty cool too.

Sweet East German bikes.

I love this one. Looks menacing without being over the top.

Kinda hideous bug.

Karmann Ghia and a Volkswagen Something.

Lorraine-Dietrich. Ridiculously long.

The superbly-named Reo Gentleman's Roadster. 3.5 liter 2 cylinder engine producing 15 horsepower. Quoted maximum speed of 60kph. Anyone that would go anywhere near that fast has no fear.

I assume that's the horn, gear shift lever and handbrake, but I have no idea what the metal thing on the sill is.

Triumph TR6

I have no idea what these are, and I forgot to write it down. The silver one had "Bertone" in the name though.

Overall it was a pretty drat cool thing to stumble into.

Class 1, so unlimited buggies. It has plenty of power, the issue so far is motor controller programming (guy they contracted to is way past his deadline) and funding period. The car runs roughly the same battery pack as a Tesla, which isn't cheap. They have two, and are hoping to get enough money raised to buy two more that way they can be hot swapped during "fuel" stops. The owner/driver has won at Baja before in a Beetle, so at least there is experience behind it.

But it really is a fascinating project, that I'm super happy to have even a small part in.
