The Books were one of my all time favorite bands. When they broke up I was very upset but then I heard Zammuto's solo stuff and I was like "well then maybe that's okay".

The Way Out is pretty much proof the project had run its course. It's a great album with some of their best sampling work, but it doesn't have the depth of Lemon of Pink or Lost and Safe. It was a good spot to end, I don't think a fifth Books album would have been as strong.

I'm hoping they'll put out the Music For A French Elevator bonus tracks and demo collection from the Dot in Time box set as its own CD. There's some very cool stuff on there and it's a shame that you can only get it by buying a huge expensive box set. Especially since the box set numbers are limited.

I've always been a big fan of them since their first album and I can't stop listening to this one. Their style has definitely changed and matured over the years and I think it's somewhere pretty awesome right now.

Falco from Future of the Left lost his non-musician job so he recorded a solo "one-man band" album under the name of Christian Fitness and released it on bandcamp. Pretty much a quirky low-fi version of Future of the Left.

It owns. I really wasn't a fan of their second album, but this one has returned enough to the style of the first album whilst also introducing some new stuff to tickle me in all the right places.

Are there any other places people have posted things like cstream's best of 2014 playlist posted earlier in the thread? For music discovery in this vein I'd rather just look through a big spotify playlist of everything one dude liked than go through yt vid after yt vid, personally. It's faster + I can look at their other songs and see if we're ~musically compatible~ quickly.

Alvvays (pronounced always) debut album is really good. It's loud rock pop, reminds me of the first Dum Dum Girls album and stuff like that, but more catchy.

It's up at First Listen on the NPR website, also so is the new Jenny Lewis which is great too.

Seeds was recorded at Federal Prism in Los Angeles and produced by guitarist David Andrew Sitek.

Funny story about this. Back in June 2004 the Unicorns were coming to play my local venue in Columbia, SC. My friend's band was opening for them along with another opening band called The Arcade Fire.

When I get to the show, I find out that Arcade Fire's van had some problems so they won't be playing. "Awesome!" I say to myself. "I won't have to sit through some lovely opening band I've never heard of." Totally regret that, but happy to see that they are playing together again!
