Yup! all of his episodes rank among the series' best. You always get the impression that SPN would almost be a better comedy than it is a drama during his eps, sadly they never run with the idea in a show-running perspective.

Started season 2 of Orange is the new Black. Like I said before I expected something just a few levels below Oz. I think it's getting there. :ohdear:

Edit: Ok, Bullshit.

Half an hour into Twin Peaks, and I'm not sure if I'm loving, but I know it's important an important show, so I'll soldier on. I think I've been taught to expect the incredibly weird from this show, and I doubt the show's going to live up to its latent image.

I'm laughing/cringing/moved by the various character's reactions to Laura Palmer's death, though. Almost everyone seems to fall apart the instant they hear she's dead, into these ridiculous, totally un-tv, and yet completely real hiccup sobs from which they just can't be roused. It's utterly hysterical, but the various characters standing at the margins who are sort of tapping their feet and waiting for the plot to start are relatable figures.

Can't decide if Bobby's hot or the Dork Who Walks, though that's probably part of the attraction. The teens in general are, umm, a strange sort of gangly group. Not sure what to make of them yet.

I'll finish the pilot, and write up thoughts as I go in the Twin Peaks thread, but thought I'd check in here first.

When I went through Twin Peaks the first time I sort of looked at it like this:

Laura Palmer is a unicorn and Twin Peaks was the magical fairy forest she lived in with all her enchanted friends, but it's being filmed as a soap opera. Dale and the sheriff are knights, Pete is a bumbling mushroom gnome, and so on.

Finished season 2 of Supernatural. Kind of funny but right when at the start of the 2 part finale I was just thinking to myself how the Roadhouse kind of just vanished after the first half of the season.

Just about everyone's reactions, I suppose, are mostly normal except for the Palmers. The Mom is just completely batshit. The Dad makes an insane turn later on that is just weird.

The most hilarious thing is that out of all the 'teens', the youngest looking one isn't in school (Madchen Amick)

Ray Wise is an absolutely wonderful actor and does absurdity extremely well. His stuff on Twin Peaks and Tim and Eric has given me a lot of respect for him.

Also, having never watched Season 2 of Twin Peaks I just decided to look up some info on Leland in Season 2. Wow, that show sure does take some weird turns :aaa:

Sold. In James Garner's honor I will commit to the entire first season of The Rockford Files. I never knew him in his prime, but he was a drat fine elder statesman. Here's to him.

EDIT: Just to escape any technicalities, I'm committing to however much of Season 1 is on Netflix. I know Quantum Leap, for instance, isn't complete on there. Just want to cover my rear end in case it's the same deal with Rockford.

So I finished LOST season 1 much faster than I was anticipating. I've already started season 2, and the first episode was brilliant, especially that beginning. I'm going to go ahead and toxx myself for season 3 as well, as my schedule appears to be more gentle than what I first expected.

Maybe it's just me, but Supernatural is at its weakest when it involves the angels. The idea of angels can be terrifying, don't get me wrong, but they removed the mystery and power from them by making them as expendable and weak as demons. Angels are supposed to be these powerhouses of otherworldly eldritch kick-rear end but when you see teams of them get banished or killed every other episode (even if it's by their own hands) they come off as boring demons in suits. And it gets harder and harder to care about the politics and power-plays of heaven every time a new bad one (Michael's Former Second-in-Command's Assistant Summer Intern) gets introduced.

And it doesn't help that Castiel is the only angel who acts like Data, Tarzan, and Spock combined while the rest of them can comprehend idioms and spout pop culture references.

I only got a few episodes into the season where the angels fell and I just drifted away from it.

There's a lot to criticize about Lost. A lot to criticize and a lot to admire. Season 2, episode 1 was a lot to admire. I believe it was the best opening to a season I've ever seen. Think what you want about how the sixth season ended - that was an amazing episode of television. And the first sequence one of the top 10 things ever to air on TV.

There's no one I'd rather be than me.

I just finished Orange Is The New Black. Holy poo poo, if you have Netflix and have not seen it then go see it now.

Our "Lead" is Piper Chapman, a rich white girl who is sentenced to fifteen months at a minimum security federal prison for trafficking drug money ten years prior. I say "Lead" because by the end of the second season her part is small in the whole of the show. The second half of the second season is more focused on the feud between Red and Vee over control of the prison contraband market, The politics of the prison management, the lives of the other inmates before their time in prison, the lives of the guards and a bunch of other subplots. Piper herself is pleasant at first rich woman who slowly turns into this monster who clearly only cares about herself and NEEDS someone to cling to. "I'm scared that I'm not myself in here and I'm scared that I am" sums her up perfectly. As great as a character she is the show is really helped by having others take the spotlight.

My standout favorite is Nichols. She just seems like it would be fun to follow around for a day. Which is a shame because she does become more of a bit player towards the end. Although the ending of season 2 gives me hope she will take more of a bigger role in 3.

The skeeviest character by far is Sam Healy. The prison counselor who is at first nice to Piper because of her situation, but as time goes on he is revealed to be this sad sack MRA with a Russian mail order bride. He starts to almost see Piper as his waifu until he finds out she's having a relationship with another inmate. Not only does he lock her in solitary for it, he sees Piper about to be attacked by another inmate and does nothing to stop it. In the second season his hatred of women is kind of explored deeper but they also try to have him actually care about the other inmates again. This is someone who has DEEP issues with women, especially lesbians, to the point where him working at a woman's prison may not be a good thing for his mental health. They do try to give him some kind of redemption towards the end but it feels forced to me. Screw the "I do care" poo poo, you were about to let an innocent woman go down for attempted murder because you were depressed Pennsatucky didn't come to your group therapy session. Who by the way is becoming your new waifu since Piper rejected you Just gently caress you dude.

One of the other guards goes by the name "Pornstache" Mendez. He smuggles drugs into the prison for sexual favors from the inmates, treats them like poo poo, acts WAY to inappropriately towards them and is an all around dick. Plus he views himself as the prisoner's gift of machismo from god. He is more likable than Healy. I'm actually a little sad, according to wikipedia he isn't in season 3

One of the biggest things that surprised me about the series is how funny and heartwarming it can be. I never saw Oz but I thought it would be close to it. Dark, violent, depicting prison life as a living hell. The prison here is no paradise but this show has it's moments about how life goes on here. Plus we get plots about chasing a chicken that somehow got into the prison grounds, a woman who believes she has become a faith healer, a contest for who can seduce the most women. The show does have it's dark, :ohdear: moments though.

If you haven't seen it, watch it. We got a great cast all around.

Up next I got Hemlock Grove, which I am looking forward to. I am a sucker for the modern horror, World of Darkness, pretty monster genre. Then House of cards. Is it odd that I'm not really looking forward to it?

Four episodes into Shameless s4 and it's not gotten bad or anything but I am not really feeling it as much as I did, the reason being it seems so much more manufactured than before. The Lip plot, which I've heard singled out as the best of the season, largely depends on everyone at his college being cartoonishly evil and not cutting him even one second of slack for anything. Debbie, who was always my favourite character, is now the most stereotypical adult's idea of what a teenager going through puberty is ever. And Fiona's plot requires her to be a fuckton more irresponsible than we've ever seen before (with one quick dialogue scene trying to establish she's always been like that) for the sake of a plot and character (her bf's brother) that is really just not interesting whatsoever.

Mickey's plot is by far my favourite so far, which is not something I thought I'd say going in.

Update #2: Second Series (Season) of Spaced

It seems to me the tone for the series was about breakups and change from it which worked well for the majority of the run but the ending to it seemed a little too pat for me. It was good to see Mike get more screen time although pairing him with Marisa wasn't something I wanted to see. Brian's relationship issues with Twist fell tacked on considering she wasn't in the majority of the series and Time & Daisy's relationship regressed from the first finale with Tim's new girlfriend more of a plot device than anything.

What was with Marvel and Seattle? Marvel has always been NYC based unless Disney tells them to pull stakes like Time Warner did with DC (and it'll be LA if that happens).
