Atlas Hugged posted:Here's a helpful example about how to better utilize randomness and I can't loving believe I have to pull it from Battletech because Battletech has some of the most egregious uses of randomness in any boardgame loving ever. Now, most rolls in Battletech are resolved on a 2D6 roll. On 2D6, the most likely sum is a 7. The designers are well aware of this and so every table you consult is weighted around the value of 7. When you fire an unaimed shot, you roll 2D6 to see where the shot landed. Assuming you're firing at the front of a mech, the biggest part of that mech is going to be the center torso.... That's a perfect example of the sort of reform that needs to be made in GW games. Hilarious that you found it in Battletech of all places. It has me thinking of the old hex-map Heavy Gear rules which had some clever ideas about damage scaling and unit customizing. Ultimately I feel it still suffered from too much record keeping like Battletech but there were some cool things happening under the hood. On the GW business front; could the current woes lead to the company selling off portions of its IP collection? For players I think this would result in some detrimental fragmentation. Where one IP gets handled brilliantly and another is converted into a poo poo saturday morning cartoon depending on who snatches up what.

When you take the position that you like something, with no backing claims, all you're doing is shutting down the existing conversation about specifics. And that's why people get snarky, because you're not adding anything that can be built upon to the conversation. Hey have you ever had sex with a girl?

I mean I love it, highly endorse having sex with girls or boys if you are a gaygay or a girlgirl yourself. Or be super proactive and suck dicks and clits and poo poo. Go WILD! What I don't endorse is a full page of this, that, and the third. Honestly I'd say get some pussy and it would be a wrap but honestly you guys are the type of trifling bitchniggas that would need pussy to get them. And you know what that works too. Go get you a buff black chick or white or whatever, it don't matter. But go get her to put a ballgag in your loving mouth, put you in a chokehold and marcellus wallace your buttholes till you buttgasm and I guarantee it'll change your whole perspective on life. Also make sure you tip well for the privilege. Great talk friends, keep it classy.

^^ magic, my friends. Real, honest-to-god magic. I want GW to sell its IP so that Farsight can get the OVA he deserves. Seriously though, GW has no clue what to do with it's IP. Dawn of War and Space Marine were good, but Ultramarine was awful. They aren't taking advantage of their deals with Fantasy Flight, and don't seem to understand that allowing more people to see their IP = more sales. The Lord Inquisitor is a miracle considerng their Gollum-like attitude to their own brand.

From the language used in the report, it sounds like Kirby's proud of having seen off the computer game threat, though that could just be hyperbole.

GW stock is at 635, best it's been since late June. (6/26 it traded at 643 and closed at 622; 6/25 it traded at 650 and closed at 640). Rumors death greatly exaggerated, etc. Edit: it's probably not going to stay here and there's still time for the major investors to bounce, but we can fairly definitively say that if something catastrophic happens it will not be a mere repeat of January. Note that the January movement all happened on a Wednesday and a Thursday--I believe you said a page or two ago that they'd wait until Friday, and I'm not sure where you're getting that from. It's entirely possible that a major investor will leave tomorrow, or Monday, or in October; my point is that people here were sitting around with popcorn hoping they'd see the place burn down like it did six months ago, and I'm telling them they can go home until they hear fire engines. If something happens tomorrow, it won't be like what happened in January. (It might be worse.)

In the depths of the Necromunda Hive, four mutie juves are trained in the Striking Scorpion path by an exiled elder, and fight back against the gangers! e: I think it really does come down to them taking the IP (and themselves) too seriously: even though we're taking the piss, GW could easily sell a cartoon with any of these plots if they were willing to just relax about the whole thing. As an aside, I dearly want to see reform, but I don't want the company to die, and I really don't want 1900 people to have to look for new jobs. I think best-case scenario somebody like Hasbro buys them when they're in a good, stable place and starts building up slowly and steadily from a sustainable foundation. I'm not a sadist and I don't want to see a bloody transition period. And I hope that if GW does die sooner rather than later that FFG keeps doing RPGs and board games and that BL and Forge World continue to operate. An exiled eldar trains a beastman that he adopts from the underhive when he finds him wandering in the sub-sub-sub-sub-sewer. Then a dark eldar who had known him in his ancient past before the fall coincidentally uses the webway portal that the exiled eldar used to get there in the first place in order to set up a slave harvesting operation. They meet and duel, and in the fight, the exiled eldar is killed. The beastman goes on to train the mutie juves. Then, later, they kill the dark eldar leader by knocking him off a scaffolding into a garbage compactor. I mean. Whatever. I don't care about the very precise set of steps in the canon of that origin story...
