tried fedora, liked the install process. still crashes when it tries to load the desktop. livecd works fine of course seems to hang on network manager start, this is a driver issue isnt it

how come more people dont run ubuntu's LTS releases? sure the graphics/sound/networking might install broken, but there are more likely to be easier solutions already posted, vs people working with the latest releases switching default behaviors all the time?

ok its been 3 days using linux + Gnome 3 on the desktop and im impressed by a lot of it tbh but it took a lot of loving about to work around problems i shouldnt have been having in the first place and theres stuff thats just straight up broken i like that i can do all my programming stuff on my normal computer without a vm but thats a very small price to pay in exchange for windows just working perfectly

Rufus Ping posted:awwwrgghhh hell yeah!!! this is the goodf poo poo problems w/ this: a) virtualization b) icons on ur desktop smdh c) don't ever add any extensions to gnome wtf is wrong with you i've been running gnome3 natively since last october and i've never had this redraw problem tbh its probably a VM acceleration thing causing the bg not to redraw Rufus Ping posted:ok its been 3 days using linux + Gnome 3 on the desktop and im impressed by a lot of it tbh i dunno what those things are but you are on the debian testing branch so who knows but once i spent some real time with it (not just experimenting with VMs) i couldn't stand to go back to windows. the gnome overview is great, the workspaces are integrated so well that you can't help but use them. and even stuff outside of gnome, like how disrespectful installers are and how programs have their own update clients that just run in the background all the time lol
