It's hyped up as some sort of sandbox MMO but what I played was - as somebody already said - bog standard MMO stuff. Lots of walking to exclamation points and then killing/collecting something.

Also it's weirdly ugly and empty-looking for being a new game built on Cryengine.

People still paying $150 for it, though.

I just wanted to say that I thought Homefront was a good game. It did the best thing a terrible shooter can do, which is make your LMG awesome and flood you with ammo so you don't give a gently caress about reloading or aiming or any of that poo poo. Unfortunately for it, Call of Duty later caught on to this idea and lets you load into missions carrying two LMGs for ultra not giving a gently caress.

Again, I don't think you can even get to the sandbox stuff without paying them for "Patron status" which is a $15 a month subscription. The sandbox stuff constitutes a massive third continent that is almost entirely player controlled where players can build poo poo wherever and that kind of thing.

The dumbest thing about the DW8 dlc is that the most expensive thing for it is a bloody computer wallpaper pack.

The joke and powerful weapon packs aren't bad deals since each adds new levels to get those weapons.

And be warned, that's about half of the dlc the game has in Japan.

As a roguelike it's pretty simple. As a rhythm game it's pretty simple.

Stick them together though and it's fiendish and keeps me coming back for more. I've been through three zones now (each with several levels each ending with a variety of bossfights) and there's still more to do and unlock. I feel I already got my moneys worth out of this.

I'm finding it be hard-as-balls and I haven't even made it past the second level of the second zone yet, but I keep coming back for more. It reminds me a lot of Spelunky, which kills the poo poo out of me every time I play it and I can barely make it through the second stage but I love it.

In theory it's not that hard since enemy patterns are easy to memorize, but if you combine the enemy patterns with the number of onscreen enemies with the fact that everything moves on the beat whether you're ready to make a move or not, then it gets pretty tricky.

It is time to Rise: This Fall, #Ryse: Son of Rome is coming to PC!

quote:

Crytek will self-publish the digital version of the gory action game. Publisher Deep Silver will distribute a boxed version.

The PC release supports 4K resolution and includes all Ryse DLC packs that have released since the game's launch on Xbox One in November 2013.

The DLC includes the Colosseum Pack, the Mars' Chosen Pack, the Duel of Fates Pack and the Morituri Pack. The PC version also grants instant access to the Ruins multiplayer map and the Legionnaire's Trust sword, which were initially bundled with the special edition of the game.

"4K gaming is another leap in graphics quality for PC gamers and Ryse is the perfect showcase for what's now possible in high-end PC games," Crytek business development chief Carl Jones said.

"We've given our team the opportunity to show what CryEngine can really achieve, without compromising quality, thanks to the incredible hardware available now to PC gamers. Ryse will be a benchmark PC graphics showcase this year and probably for a long time in future. Our community asked for a Ryse PC version, and we have the means and technology to deliver this title with the highest quality possible."

Terrible game but I bet it'll look stunning on PC.

Beat Octodad last night as well as Metal Gear Rising.

Octodad: Great game, and my kids really enjoyed the ride. I'll try to find every tie now and get some of the additional achievements, as my kids (and even wife) laugh at my bumbling around. Solid game all around, but I cannot imagine playing it without a controller. Holy moly.

Metal Gear Rising: I am dumb as poo poo for waiting this long to finish this game. I've even have had it since release! I originally only played through half of mission 3 or so before getting distracted. I would say that the final boss battle was incredible, but every Goddamn boss battle is incredible. They really did a fantastic job on all accounts, especially the music. That music gets me pumped as hell when the vocals kick in. I am going to keep playing this game to try and get S on every mission, although I can immediately think of a few areas where that is going to be very tough. I may have to abuse the checkpoint restart feature so I don't have to keep replaying entire levels. This is also the only game that made me feel like a badass every time a QTE came up. I was seriously stoked to see a QTE because I knew some crazy poo poo was about to go down. Everyone owes it to themselves to play this game.

PLEASE CLAP
I don't know if this has been mentioned here but Valve has ported Dota 2 to the Source 2 engine and you can play around with the dev tools:

quote:

Source 2 is upon us, it seems.

Quite what this means, it’s impossible to say at the moment, although plenty of people are confidently stating exactly what it means. What we do know is that the latest update for Dota 2 appears to be packing a little more than mod tools. Digging into the files like feverish moles, the excitable detectives of the internet have discovered references to Source 2 in file names and routines. Dota 2 appears to have been ported to the new engine, which means the changes in a game that looks and sounds the same as it did yesterday are now today’s big news.

To be absolutely clear, I haven’t seen any definite evidence that Dota 2 is running on a new engine. It’s entirely possible that the modding tools, most notably Hammer, have been updated to support a new engine that is still under lock and key somewhere. Furthermore, even if this is the first public release of Source 2, it doesn’t mean that we’re going to see a deluge of new releases from Valve, or even details about any Source 2 games that are in development. Dota’s transition from one set of tools to another suggests that Source 2, like Source 1.00-1.99, may be an iteration rather than a giant leap forward.

RoyAwesome on the Dota 2 subreddit has been gathering info.

quote:

That script also allows for different dlls to load and render different assets (vmaps are rendered by worldrenderer.dll, etc). This is a completely new architecture from Valves previous system. This bit alone would indicate a significant amount of engine work has been done to split these bits out of the engine and into their own libraries. That means the engine is also completely plug-and-play with new engine level components if valve creates them for different games. This is pretty freaking huge.

Something has definitely changed, as a cursory look at the updated Dota console and map editor, Hammer, make clear. If Source 2 is going to be the backbone of all Valve’s upcoming releases though and its most valuable current release, it seems likely that any release would be as much a test of newly efficient systems rather than a statement of any kind. If you want to see how a million computers handle the skeleton of a new engine, Dota 2 is one of the most useful delivery vehicles any company could have.
