This is what we've got now. Basically if he pulls on the leash it tightens up. Can't choke him or anything like that with, but it's enough so that he can't slip out of it.

Sputnik had a door problem too but we got training. Basically had to establish boundaries where he could be when the door was open (and not open the door until he was in place), and that we were in control of outside as well as inside. He hasn't ran out in months now.

Frank can pretty well handle himself near the door. He's still a spastic rear end about getting all up in peoples' faces about 3 steps in, but he never bolts out and handles himself extremely well when off leash putzing in the front yard. He has escaped from my mothers' yard a few times, but always comes back after a bit of running around.

I took this just because he sits silly, but also him sitting on the edge of the porch is some of the training we do. Dakota doesn't get to go out the front door unless he sits and is told to, and if I'm walking out to get something from the front yard, like the mail for example, I'll let him out but he has to sit on the porch and wait for me. He does. He's a good dog.

LITERALLY SHAKING posted:so I never really thought to look it up and apparently my memory was garbage, but I guess border collies are usually in the 30-45 pound range. Frank's pushing 85 pounds, and that's not fat. My dog Dexter is around the same size and also some sort of BC mix, he rules.

My parents' collie/greyhound mix doesn't bolt, but he tries to watch you as you leave and gets his face shut in the door a lot. If you just let the storm door close and it catches him he'll stand there trapped waiting patiently for someone to rescue him. The lab we had growing up only ran off if he heard children playing. I can only imagine being a parent and watching this big dumb lovesausage come barreling up to your child. Like, it was obvious he wasn't being aggressive, the question would be would he be able to stop.

want to spend a day with all those dogs :3 saint bernards are loving awesome. my grandmother used to raise them back on the farm. she'd drag them all over central Illinois in the 80s and early 90s to dog shows. one of my uncles started to carry on with the breed but somewhere along the way got an adorable little golden mix that goes everywhere with him in his purple jeep. here's a freshly woken Frank.
