You are an Acolyte in the service of the Emperor’s Inquisition. You stand in the front line of a great and secret war where your duty is to hunt out the foul stench of heresy, the vile alien, and the twisted influence of Chaos. You will tread where others fear, venturing to different planets, ancient space hulks and the unsavory depths of the hive cities. You will never know fame or reward, yet if you stand resolute your deeds will be whispered to the God-Emperor of Mankind and your name will be revered for millennia. Karia posted:Oh god my idea is going so terribly. I really feel like part of the thread now. We are a Tech Priest in the year 40,000 (ish). A ninety second summary can be found here. Our job as an Acolyte of the Inquisition is to find xeno-traitors, heretics, and daemon cults, and crush them/tell them to our boss so he can to crush them. This is further complicated by the fact that our Family is the hereditary owners of a Rogue Trader ship, making us minor aristocrats whose job is to explore the unknown and bring back technology, lore, and xeno plunder. Our Tech Priest is going to have to manage the delicate balance of supporting our Family while also supporting the Inquisition, knowing that a misstep will get us spaced or sent to the pyres. This doesn't even include our official enemies, being slavering xenos, ruthless heretics, and soul-eating daemons. As a Tech Priest, we are a member of a religious monopoly on technology, which means we get to know all knowledge of the humanity, but we are restrained by religious sins such as “innovation” and “heretek”. Our religious order wants us to discover all the knowledge that has been lost over the millennia, but only do so in an orthodox way. Between the Inquisition, your Family, and your obedience to the Tech Priests, you will almost certainly be betraying someone in short order. Good luck. Obscil posted:B 5 Also void born; you were born in Space! Usually one of the massive, millennia old spaceships plying the space lanes, but massive space stations are also an option. Stereotypically, you're pale, skinny, and spooky. You probably have a decent handle on tech. Actually sounds kind of goony, now that I think of it. Ship crews are frequently divided into tribes, like "Starboard Life Sustainers" or "Port Scan Techs", and they can be so isolated they forget there's a galaxy beyond the ship, or that they're on a ship at all. 40K ships are supposed to be, these massive gothic vessels, basically giant space cathedrals that have howling wilderness of forgotten corridors and holds between densely packed crew sections, shining bastions of ultra-tech, that have chain gangs hundreds strong pulling massive torpedoes into place. Ignore any numbers you're given, 40K writers are bad at math and usually end up making ships less dense than styrofoam and more thinly populated than Mongolia. Could combine 4&11, make the character from the bridge crew, the aristocracy of the void born.
