Speaking of which, what's the orchestral/brass music that starts at 10:57? I've heard it a ton of times but for the life of my I can't figure out what it's called.

Oh man, you rock. I had Wagner playing in the background the entire time I was trying to search for that composition because it sounded like him. Der Ring is just so drat long I hadn't made it to Siegfried yet.

She is the reason that I didn't have to look up a light second, and is an amazing person who deserves every mention she gets everywhere. If you don't know who she is it's absolutely worth reading at least her wikipedia page.

Coincidentally, both videos were filmed in South Africa (F1 stunt in Durban, at Top Gear Festival, and the BMW ad was shot in Cape Town). Content: A track-built S2000 that sounds pretty fantastic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9C-SV2YuSI

drzrma posted:Latency always applies since a nanosecond is close enough to a light foot for napkin math, doubled in this case due to it affecting both video and control inputs. It isn't much but it does add up, although video processing and reaction time are probably the major factors for anything within line of sight from near ground level. Yeah, in this case you can just disregard light-feet delay calculations because so many other things involved dwarf it. WiFi has a built in minimum latency on the order of milliseconds thanks to how its packet protocol works, so that's already 6 orders of magnitude higher latency than 1 foot of radio wave propagation. Video processing is much worse. Video codecs like to buffer lots of data so they can compare frames and send only the changes between them. Generally speaking, the more they buffer, the better the compression ratio. There are reduced-compression codecs which limit buffering for latency sensitive applications like videoconferencing, but even then you're still likely looking at 1 or 2 frames of buffering. There's ways of reducing video latency below 1 frame, but not if you rely heavily on cheap off the shelf silicon developed for larger markets (cell phones, tablets), as most commercial drones do.

Minimum human latency between being exposed to a visual stimulus, processing it, sending out a motor response, and a muscle actually moving is ~100 milliseconds. That alone dwarfs any other incidental latency that may occur in such a system, particularly a system designed with low latency in mind. As long as something along the line hasn't become mis-configured into doing some ill-advised buffering, latency isn't something I'd be worried about.

The whole thing is kind of dumb and done just because ~*~DRONES~*~ are hot right now. You'd get less latency and a more accurate 3rd person perspective if you just mounted a hardwired camera on a big fuckoff pole attached to a tow hitch or something.

I think he has some sort of condition, but I can't put my finger on it. Kind of like turrets nervous tics or Parkinson's or something, I dunno. Like with how he moves repetitiously and fluidly, then after shifting touches his leg, or his face and is fidgety. I've seen people with something similar but can't think of what it's called. He's 2fast2furious in his mind, though.

Yeah, there's so many of these compilations these days that it's no longer interesting. All I want to know is how have I gone this long not knowing about the Lada Niva Pickup?
