Nam Hweejong is coming back for S3. I wonder if he'll be more humble this season or take the lion's approach again

I want Hweejong in every season, and for him to always be a dick, always be the first eliminated and always swear to be more humble next time.

Wow, episode 5 (s2)! Awesome main game and death match. I was really rooting for Yoonsun. Especially since the plan to get infinite chips was way more clever than what the opposite team did, which was to just brute force through majority votes. She really had her head in the game but always seemed to be one step behind her competition. Same with Dahye, both smart players who I think just weren't conniving enough. But I'm glad Yohwan finally got a chance to showcase what he's good at, since he's basically been a non-entity up until now. Killing the opponent's King with their own laser was just beautiful. Crime Scene was very enjoyable. You'll find that on the same tumblr and twitter account that The Genius is on.

Yeah, I only made it a little ways into the actual debate/discussion section and stopped. I do like the idea of it, just didn't really take to that group. Do they ever bring in different reps? (including, maybe, women?) With how much time they spent introducing everyone I would guess no. I think Crime Scene is a good filler while waiting for more Genius. The first few episodes are harder to watch, but by the time they change the format to one crime per episode it improves a whole lot.

The first half of the episode is really dull. I forced myself through it because of the feedback the show has been getting after the last few episodes. Totally worth it.

I made it past all the introductions, which went well into the second half of the episode, and then they brought in their special guest dude and I lost interest. If it gets better after that, I'll give it a second look.

I threw this in the Running Man thread, but the latest episode with HaHa as a guest is really good. They veer off into talking about education in general, but they start off talking about Sex Ed and porn, which is hilarious. They finish things off with foreigners trying to speak English, which is also funny. They also replaced the Brit with a German, for whatever little that's worth. I guess I agree that having the cast be entirely dudes is kind of a bummer.

It's definitely been progressively better each episode. I'd say just give the second episode a try. If it doesn't pull you in then yeah, it's probably just not something you'll enjoy.

What's really surprising about watching Abnormal Summit is that I find myself agreeing with Enes (or at least the gist of his opinion) quite often. And I don't consider myself a conservative person... Anyway, it's the most entertaining "just people talking" korean show that I've watched from what bumdidlyump translated. I'd say it doesn't really "get better", I thought it was interesting ever since the introductions so if that didn't hook you then it's probably not for you. The second episode was funnier but otoh the guest from the first episode was the best one yet.

How can you agree with Enes and not be conservative? I'd want to smack him across the face if he weren't so darn adorable

Suddenly I'm agreeing with some hella old-fashioned ideas. And oh don't get me started on the proverbs... Now the chinese guy is just kind of an asshat.

I binged the first 3 episodes of Abnormal Summit yesterday and I'm really enjoying it. It's essentially a talk show but it's also one of the funnier ones I've seen in a while, and listening to different cultural points of view on a topic is pretty interesting. Also surprised how quickly I memorized a 14-person cast, although it really helps when you can just call people by their country name.

Just getting into Abnormal Summit - its a great conceit for a talk show. They should look to have a latin american voice in there too tho.

Douwe posted:Or, you know, women... Something like 7 years ago they had a pretty popular talk show on KBS called Global Talk Show (미녀들의수다) that focused on gathering a group of foreign women and have them talk about their experiences in Korea and such. A few of the female foreigners became to be pretty popular in Korea because of their quirks and personalities. The Italian representative way of talking Korean became so popular, Korean celebrities imitate her. And this isn't the only talk show that involved foreigners either, it's just that these two, Global Talk Show and Abnormal Summit are the most popular ones. I guess what was going on in the minds of the producers was, "Hey, there used to be a popular female foreigner talk show, so let's make a male foreigner talk show!" Who knows, they might bring in some of the Global Talk show members in as a special one time thing or as guests.

I know the season finale of Genius 2 was forever ago but I just finished it and I'm just going say that I was rooting for Yohwan mainly for the fact that personality-wise, I liked him a lot better than Sangmin. Yohwan was a goof with brief moments of lucidity, but Sangmin was, though competent, a slimy bastard. Also, asking if the product of the lowest two numbers is greater than one was a totally USELESS question since the only two numbers whose products equal one are 1 and 1, and he already knew that there were no repeated numbers. He should have asked if the product of the two lowest numbers is greater than TWO, then he would know that the lowest two numbers are 1 and 2, thus he would know all 4 numbers. Then with the other questions he asked he would know that the first two digits are 19, and with two guesses can guess either 1982 or 1928. ARGH. loving Yohwan'd.

If Yohwan had won it would have seemed like he failed his way to victory. For me it's less about personality than it is wanting to see cool games that smart people figure out how to win with intelligence. I didn't much want Sangmin to win either, but of the two at least he came off as somewhat competent.

Also you two are crazy, Sangmin makes "slimy bastard" an art form. I love the guy, he is hilarious.

Someone more immersed in korean pop culture could correct me here, but I like that a lot of these are unknowns/listed for their normal careers. There's something really cool about these normal people being celebrated for their skills. They've got some good narratives going here too, like poker player vs poker dealer and Hweejong possibly redeeming himself. I totally expect a swerve somewhere though, there's no way you keep Jinho and Sangmin away forever, even if not in a contestant capacity.
