Kind of lame, it's hard for them to capture their atmosphere live, even with the new stuff. But I'd probably see them again. The crowd was one of the worst I've ever been in.

Crowd was the usual black/death folks with more kids than usual, I guess.

Lord Purple posted:Los Angeles probably four or five years back. It was a smaller club-like venue. The crowd might have just ruined it for me. Probably the same tour. Absu opened and were unintentionally hilarious with Proscriptor screeching long, rambling stories about each song in a voice that was pretty much Beavis's Cornholio routine.

He's one of the best drummers, period, but I can imagine his character being laughable if you aren't prepared for the cheese.

Huh, I thought that thing with Inquisition got cleared up and the 88MM was the band of someone else. Oh well, I'm going to see them in two weeks time. Just hope no local neo-nazis find out about this. Or the AFA for that matter.nomapple posted:New Darkspace out on the 6th September! This is great news! Wonder if they'll do any tour for the release?

What are some albums to recommend to someone just getting into black metal? I've been wanting to explore the genre more after listening to Immortal,Bathory, and Black Anvil for awhile but I don't know where to even begin. I tried Mayhem, but didn't really care for them. I like the blastbeat stuff but also like the more thrashy/melodic stuff (maybe like Skeletonwitch). What would be some top 10 or top 5 must have albums? Thanks

Some obvious ones: Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky Satyricon - Nemesis Devina

Don't bother with Satyricon imo, one of those second rate bands that only get much attention because they're from Norway. Check out some of these: Varathron - His Majesty at the Swamp Rotting Christ - Thy Mighty Contract Master's Hammer - Ritual Root - Hell Symphony

At least he recommended the one album that has a couple decent songs. Dark Medieval Times and Shadowthrone are so insanely terrible I have no idea why they're included by many in The Great Second Wave Canon

How about Gorgoroth, Carpathian Forest, and Watain. Are they worth checking out? EDIT - Just happened to jump to page 46 (I think) and Gorgoroth and Carpathian Forest were both recommended, so I will check them out as well. I guess I should look up 90s black metal bands and just run down the list. flirty dental hygienist fucked around with this message at 01:28 on Aug 23, 2014 |
