Was this episode filmed in front of a greenscreen or something? Everything outdoors just looks really wonky.

Can't wait for Capaldi to get out of the whole 'regeneration stupidity' phase and into however he's actually going to play this.

Suddenly with the "Why did I choose this face" thing I am immediately seeing "he made his face the valeyard to warn himself of what is coming." Or something. I want to see evil Doctor. Up till this scene in the alley it has been weird though.

That old hobo was a great quasi-companionDohaeris posted:Suddenly with the "Why did I choose this face" thing I am immediately seeing "he made his face the valeyard to warn himself of what is coming." I'm guessing this is the reference to Capaldi's previous appearance in The Fires of Pompeii - the message he's trying to send himself is presumably that his sense of moral authority has been misplaced.

Echoed. This has gotten better the longer it's gone on. Hopefully Capaldi keeps up the tired old man teaching Clara schtick.

Is it just me or did the scream as the booth descended feel like it was originally intended to be a cliff-hanger ending if this was a 2 parter?

The first part was a "HEY FANGIRLS, SHUT UP, OLD DOCTOR IS OKAY" thing and was as disjointed as the Doctor is after a regeneration. Once he discovered hobo scottish, he picked right up. Awesome. The interaction between the Doctor and Clara is excellent.

How did that just happen? It feels like contrivance made manifest. "Just gonna get myself locked in the room I was trying to force someone out of." It's like the worst magic trick ever.
