He never lost his music and Pyro. Just the letter T. And it was to Ahmed Johnson, known in WCW as Big T.

He probably didn't actually job to anyone, but he had his theme music and pyro taken away.. Any idea what I'm actually thinking about?

Are you thinking of the reboot Nitro where all of the Millionaire's Club wrestlers had their pyro removed and they would randomly just turn off their music during the entrances?

I really miss WCW from this period just for the sheer "what the gently caress" factor every week like Goldberg voiding Scott Hall's WCW contract by literally eating it. It was just this absurd stupidity that TNA could never match.

If only Mike Gillis could've done this to void Luongo's contract with the Canucks.

:aaa: This really happened? Well, I mean it was WCW - of course it happened.

I had stopped following wrestling in the early mid-90's, when WCW was still respectable. In going through things like the 3rd Man podcast, shoots, and reading various threads over the years, it honestly seemed like a place where anything was possible.

I know there was the Jeff Jarrett angle in TNA where he had to work his way from the bottom, which included being a janitor, and he did not have music for a bit.

What about the wrestling?

Sure the finishes, the production, the angles, the entrance music, and the general use of very good talent were all poor...

But the wrestling was pretty good (Hogan/DOD aside).

Foley was forced by Vince and The Corporation to wrestle for the first time ever as "Mick Foley" on RAW and beat his friend Terry Funk to win his job back. They also took away his music, so maybe that's what you're thinking of.

There's no one I'd rather be than me.

I was listening to the Mick Foley interview on Steve Austin's podcast. THey get around to talking about Marc Mero and...Marc Mero was the first guy to get a guaranteed contract in the WWE?

Was Mero considered the next big thing or something?

Vince thought Johnny B. Badd was going to be the next big thing.

Unfortunately, he got Marc Mero.

This isn't quite accurate. He decided himself he wasn't going to wrestle as Dude Love to please anyone any more, and was PUNISHED by having to wrestler Funk. After he won, he was re-embraced by Mr McMahon. Cut a promo about hating having to dance with the bikini-ladies and everything, one of those real Russo "is...is this real?" angles (for one show).

That episode is on the Network if you fancy watching it. It's good stuff.

I've been watching a lot of New Generation era WWF and I was curious why Bret Hart was mostly relegated to the upper midcard? From what I've seen Bret Hart usually has the best match on the PPV and gets the biggest pops of the night. Was Bret a bad draw as WWF Champion? Was it because of tension with the Clique? Did Vince just not think he could carry the company?

Are you thinking of the time where Diesel was on top?

Basically whenever business starts going bad, Vince panics and puts the title on a big guy. From what I remember business wasn't bad with Bret on top, but you know Vince... workrate isn't his top priority.

Oh, that explains it. The moment Al Greene thought he was an actual dog, I turned the TV off, and didn't watch wrestling on a Monday for the first time since I started.

I sat through Warrior in a Mirror, but a man thinking he is a dog was a bridge too far.

Wait, was this during the gay porn angle where Fit Finlay walked Al Green to the ring on a leash, or did they do two angles where Al Green thought he was a dog?

I'm going out of my way to give WCW as much credit as possible, but while there were definitely good workers on the card in the early 90s, they were sandwiched between a lot of lame gimmicks on the undercard and hit-or-miss main events with Sting, Luger, Vicious, Vader, Simmons, and others. And that's without even getting into the silly mini-movies, Bill Watts booking, and failed experiments like El Gigante. Things were looking up when Flair got the book back right before Hogan's return, but the silly poo poo they did with Hogan and the DoD was a continuation of other stuff they'd been doing.

Same here, bashing WCW for loving up was like an Internet past time and watching the later Nitro years was like an MST3K kind of experience because you knew it was bad and making fun of it was part of the fun. Now, I really do miss them, TNA kind of fills the void a little bit but to paraphrase Bryan Alvarez, they never had a peak like WCW did which added a lot to their fall.

WCW finding new and exciting ways to gently caress up was exciting, like Lawnmower Man. TNA employing the same circle jerk of people and failing in the same ways is more like Lawnmower Man 2.
