In the first video yeah if the other guy was a either a little faster or a little slower it would have been nice, but poor yielding like that from other drivers is literally an everyday occurrence.

In the second video, the SUV didn't signal, but also you were passing him on the right and changing lanes right into his blind spot. You should have seen that it was a possibility that he might change lanes. There was nobody in the rightmost lane in front of you, so why change lanes into a lane where he might go?

Right lane is an exit only just a bit up, if you don't get over immediately you're likely to get blocked out. I'm coming down off a flyover.

I wouldn't even call the first one poor yielding, the guy didn't have a clue they were there.

Craptacular
Jul 11, 2004

Yeah I saw the right lane becomes a right exit, but that's a good 20 seconds down the road. You didn't have to switch lanes right where you did. Another 2-3 seconds in the same lane would have put you past the SUV.

I pass all the time on the right too, but when doing so, you have to be extra careful and anticipate what other inattentive drivers will do, because that's not where they're expecting someone to pass.

First one I don't understand how that yield is supposed to work. Is he supposed to judge vehicles oncoming speed in the periphery of his mirrors verging on blindspot merging into his lane and then yield accordingly with very little time? You saw this coming way before they did, and you're the one honking? I don't get it. This is definitely a time where you should have adjusted your speed to avoid this, but you didn't.

Its a lovely Yield sign that makes no sense IMO as simple merging rules would suffice at that intersection. I think he was assuming he would stop but he didnt. Still, that had about a 0% chance of collision so I don't get the horn and all.

If I honked at every person that came that close to me in SoCal I would literally have the horn on constantly.

The second video is a simple blind-spot error that I see all the time and isn't really negligent driving either. Dude decided to lane change right when he got into the blind spot. Just bad timing. I'm always careful when I lane change into another cars blind spots for this reason.

Agreed but Other Guy didn't use indicators (cant hear them on the camera from the op either though lol), so its a crapshoot. Definitely agree that you should be careful when merging into someone's blindspot, you learn this within 10 minutes of driving. Two drivers mindlessly drifting into one another situation, if it had happened.

True. Also, why side indicators aren't required in the US is beyond me.

I'm pretty sure I have avoided a few of these situations (especially at night) because my car has a nice bright LED indicator right behind the front wheel.

This. I totally cut a guy off the other day by merging into the center lane on the freeway, only to find out that the guy in the left lane had his signal on and the hole in traffic was being made for him. Couldn't see his signal until I was in front of him/had stolen his spot.

Fortunately my car does have side indicators so he saw me coming and didn't merge, but still probably thought I was a dick.

Unless I'm completely incompetent as a human being, I am positive that there's no film/cap over the lens of both this camera and the first one. There was a protective film over the screen(s) of course, but nothing to indicate that the lens needs to be uncapped. Plus, it would have been out of focus from the start, not after a few hours.

The heat is altering the focal length, starting with the right side. I just want my money back without having to return this thing so I can just gently caress around and see if I can salvage it instead.

I've been using my B40/A118 for a day now, and so far no issues. It's ever so slightly blurry at the edges (and ~5% more blurry on the right than on the left), but hey, it's a cheap wide angle lens, and even my GoPro isn't completely sharp at the edges. It's most noticeable on the road sign in the last picture, and from looking at Youtube videos, that's just how the camera is.

No thermal issues to report, but today hasn't exactly been super warm, 4°C in the morning and 18°C as I was driving home from work. As long as I'm not hit with the blur issue, I'm very satisfied.

E: I might just get one for the rear window as well.

Boom, mothafucka!
I was on my way home just about an hour ago and in order to do so, I have to get on the interstate. Well anyway, before turning onto the on-ramp I looked to see what traffic I should anticipate before merging, only spotting a van in the far right lane. So, I turned onto the on-ramp and headed down to merge into traffic and saw the van start to come up behind me quickly, so I slowed down since he has the right-of-way.

So what does the van do? Maintain speed? Speed up? Absolutely not. The van comes to almost a complete stop in the interstate blocking me from merging.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kb9wveBhfKo

PS: The camera is on the passenger side of my car and skewed to the right. So when it looks like I'm driving like poo poo, it's not as bad as it looks.

you were merging into a construction zone, and you both slowed down. I can understand the van_driver not electing to speed up and potentially collect a $$$ ticket.

Out here, everything hurts.

Murphy's law is real.

Yesterday, I took my car in for a factory 'customer satisfaction fix' (I guess they don't have to call it a recall that way) that was supposed to take a couple hours, so I didn't bother clearing out the car, and didn't remove the dash cam. Fast forward to the afternoon, and they call to say they are going to have to pull the transmission, and they are sending a driver out to pick me up to get my rental car.

Today, in my rental car, I'm sitting #1 in the left turn lane at a major intersection. The light changes, the two people in the intersection to make a left turn from my right begin to turn to clear the intersection, and some moron coming from my left runs the light and comes to a screeching halt right in front of me, blocking both left turner's partway through the turn. No impact amazingly, as the left turners stopped in time to allow the moron to skid past them. Much honking and 15 or 20 seconds later, he manages to get his car moving again and clear the intersection.

"Cool" I think, I finally got something worth saving on my dash c... oh... :smith:
