It's not as though I expect Kendrick to only put out stuff that sounds like Section.80 or m.a.a.d city, but I know that's not what I'm looking for from him at all

ya killing me man! That is a good track imo, one of the few keepers from These Days

But yeah, I get what you mean with 'not so much him going pop', but if that came from any other no-name artist, it would be labelled as pop. Because it is coming from Kendrick, who has a history of rap, we go into there expecting rap and label it as such regardless. It is actually less rap feeling than some stuff the Weeknd puts out.
Yeah that's the thing, Kendrick's a serious rap dude or w/e so it's throwing a lot of people. Like I said before I actually think it wouldn't have sounded too out of place on OD or Section 80 because despite everything else dude's still rapping on there (which I think makes it different from something like "Hey Ya" or the Love Below stuff).

I can't remember if it was here or some review I read but someone said it sounded like a song he'd perform on "The Voice" and I thought that was dead on because the first thing I thought of when I heard it was Cee-lo.

And again, dude's getting major buzz either way. He's expanding, but still staying firmly within what his music's been going for since I've been paying attention to him. Like we were discussing in here previously, dude's about the biggest rappity-rap rapping dude around yet is getting the attention of a pop star, which is something really unique. I'm still really looking forward to his next album.

That being said, if he drops some "Lasers" level garbage or something I'm gonna turn on him so quick I'll end up with whiplash.

You didn't like Alopecia by Why? I enjoyed that but haven't checked out any of their newer stuff. Milo is alright, I liked that song with Heems and his Argyle Sox verse but I can barely stand Busdriver

I liked alopecia a lot. Pretty much that, elephant eyelash, sanddollars ep, and eskimo snow were all solid albums imo."Miss Ohio's Nameless" would be on my short list for fav songs by white dudes. I'd recommend checking any of those if you liked alopecia because they're all good (I'd say elephant eyelash is their best album). They (well, not sure if Yoni Wolf had a backing band when he made it) made an album before sanddollars ep that was a lot more rap sounding and a lot more garbage (oaklandmuzikonfusion or something like that).

I liked it. I thought there was a lot of skippable stuff tho. It was more disappointment by comparison to Control System that killed it for me, but that is not a fair comparison. Hunnid Stax up to Twact was entirely skippable by me. I just don't like those tracks.

Juicy's verse is pretty phoned in and Ferg's is nowhere near as good as his recent track with SBTRKT, his flow is very weird.
Future's OK. Not great overall for all the talent involved.
