Goddamn my draft went poorly. I started like 4 high ceiling rookies, and only one was above average.

Thank god for Taylor Lindsey.

Your poor drat six-man bullpen. Paps with 111 IP, Perk with 94. Paging Dr. Mike Marshall.

For anyone wondering, my pitching setup was to have my four starters set to a pitch count of 85, my bullpen with everyone set to middle relief, with Chapman, Bailey, and Romo set to "use more often" (I added that to Rosenthal as well halfway through the season), and Elbert and Byrdak set to "use less often. Joe Paterson was set to lefty specialist instead of middle relief and churned out one of my favorite stat lines ever.

Depends on how the draft shook out. They don't really have any more risk than normal for injury since the pitch limit means they always go into a start rested, even with the short rest. Obviously I would have needed to let people draft another five rounds or so and sign free agents as well so who knows who would have been available. I would have been more worried about the bullpen than the starters.

That's also part of what I'm getting at. The IP totals for Chapman and Romo are pretty silly. I'm surprised they maintained effectiveness, even ignoring injury risk.

Yes, I'm going to post them after I finish the team stats because at some point in the offseason the game resets them all and I don't know if that's before or after the awards.

I think (at work so I can't check right now) all of my high usage relievers have a higher than normal stamina for a reliever. It was certainly something I conciously looked at because of what I was planning to do.

Outside of Cinci these look like some bad offenses. I can't believe St Louis isn't worse than it is, it looks like nobody in their lineup posed a threat to pitchers.

God drat, my offense was terrible. Moustakas had the 3rd highest OBP on my team with .328. Nelson Cruz was poo poo, but Chris Carter killed it??? Pitching was pretty drat good though.

Still surprised I won 89 games with my garbage lineup. Ryan Howard didn't help me, unfortunately :(

You outperformed your pythag by about 7 wins. Banking on Ryan Howard...yikes.

Turns out Manny Machado was a really solid pick. I'm sure some peeps will be around to apologize to Seattle's owner for busting his balls about it.

I think now it's a matter of busting OOTP's balls for thinking Machado (career 104 OPS+) would be prime Mike Schmidt.

Schmidtty didn't really hit for elite average and had more than enough patience to compensate, but, yes, the BABiP Gods are powerful. Maybe you mean Boggs.

It's still loving funny that the "worst pick in the 1st round" led the Mariners to the best record in the AL.

It was Seattle so my Schmidtty comparison was based on "adding up the WARs". Yeah the .330 average is pretty silly. 2010 Beltre is probably the closest 3B comp I can think of.

Sometimes things just work out.

Just because it worked out in the end does not excuse the process being flawed.

Especially position players!

Admittedly what happened was I at work and my pick came up. I wasn't ready so I went to Fangraphs to see the best players available by WAR and saw Machado. Then I picked him afterward realized his WAR was generated by his really good UZR.

I refined my process after that. I decided to Pete Carroll it and start trading down a bit to get better picks. I think it worked.

I don't get how my pitcher WAR seems so good, yet the results were so awful. Does WAR not mind HR/9 so much?

Why was my defensive efficiency so poor? Gordon/Trout/Martin should have been one of the best OFs in the majors, Perez is a fantastic C, and my IF wasn't exactly awful (1B is a black hole, but who cares about 1B).

I'm going to guess this is due in part to park factors because you have increased hits, doubles, and triples rates so it counts against your defensive efficiency which is simply the rate at which balls put into play are converted into outs by a team's defense and has nothing to do with stats that measure actual "range". Your infield was also not very good defensively. I'm guessing none of those guys except Kipnis(?) had a chance to be above average.
