Eh, they weren't going to ignore that potential revenue stream forever. I get why people don't like it but I imagine they'll get over it pretty quickly. At some point I'm sure people were mad about ads all over the court too, but with time everyone stopped noticing. It'll just become part of basketball. Eventually only the crotchety old dudes who get mad about rap music and t-shirt cannons will still be complaining and everyone else will just shrug.

Hate all you want, it only matters if you stop watching and buying merchandise. They'll keep making decisions that make them money. Unfortunately they have a monopoly on the product we want.

This makes sleeves on jerseys an inevitability, doesn't it? Why would anyone want to get rid of the additional ad space?

I go to a ton of Toledo Walleye games (low level minor league hockey) and they and most of the teams in the league have ads on the jerseys. To be honest, they're not hard to look past after a couple games. The ice has ads on it as well. Now granted, this sort of stuff has gone along with minor leagues for a while now so I suppose there's a different feel to it versus going to a full fledged top level pro game. Still, it's not the worst thing. I just wanna watch hockey.

E: it definitely does give the jersey a cluttered look, I'll grant. The jerseys you buy from the stores don't have ads on them though.

Yeah this has always been my stance on it. I get why people don't like it but for me as long as basketball is still basketball and has dudes doing rad dunks and poo poo I don't really care about the asthetics of the jersey that much. It'd be cool if they looked good, but that's just a bonus. The uniforms being tacky isn't such a big deal that it kills the sport for me. I lived through the 90s when everyone had awful black or teal pinstripes with gigantic cartoon mascot logos on the jersey, so I can deal with some ads.

It'll be Quicken Loans, Fathead, Horseshoe Casino, and (in the future) LRMR Marketing for the Cavs IMO.

I don't agree at all. Could be because baseball's my favorite sport (and probably next with this bullshit), but the aesthetics of the game are important, especially the uniforms for old-line franchises. Yankee Stadium is already plastered with ads in every conceivable space, but at least it stops where the field begins. How much do we need to accept before enough is enough?

I'm not saying anyone else has to like it, just that I don't care. As long as the essential elements of the sport are the same I don't care what they wear. If other people do that's fine. Every sport has survived plenty of hideous uniforms though.

I don't care either (except to make fun of wacky sponsorships that will inevitably hapoen), but part of that might be because the Cavaliers have been committed to making their jerseys worse and worse so anything is an improvement over what they have now.

Outrage against jersey ads is all we have. The NHL has straight up admitted the only reason they haven't done it is because they knew if they were the first, they'd be roasted for it.

Jerseys would be a great bubble to see pop. It has to be coming, what with prices for them going up and up while quality (physically, not aesthetically) goes down and down and people are starting to realize you can get knockoffs that look close enough for a fraction of the price.

But the thing here is that in minor league sports teams generally need to get as many sponsors as they can just in order to survive, not to make extra profits.

I think the ASHLEY MADISON DOT COM New York Knicks jerseys will send a mixed message.

Also, how quickly will boner pills and other pharmaceuticals jump on board and will they have to add the laundry list of side effect legalese to each jersey. I for one really want to have the word "bleeding" appear on my kit at least 17 times (no matter how small) just because Lipitor bought ad space.

This was an inevitability but with enough public blowback with a drop in merchandise sales it could be short lived.
