Past thread: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3570415

NOW UNDER EVEN NEWER NEW MANAGEMENT: An OP basically copied word for word from Lone Goat's

As new head of the Something Awful Athletic Council, I'd like to personally welcome you to the Goonweight Grand Prix, where we determine who is best at picking fight outcomes, and then send them a sweet plastic replica belt (if we even still do that, people were terrible about sending the belt on time).

A few days before every card, I'll post the fights on the main card with a FORM and a SPREADSHEET. Fill out the form (or post you picks in the thread), and then check the spreadsheet to make sure your picks are in there correctly. When the card is over and I sober up, I'll calculate the results and post standings, along with a link to the DATABASE that maths everything out. Check the database to make sure it's calculating properly.

:siren: CERTIFIED RULES OF THE GRAND PRIX :siren:

  • Picks can be submitted via the Form, or in the thread, though I prefer you do both.
  • Picks must be submitted before the start of the Main Card to be eligible. Picks submitted after that point are considered null and void. Please pay attention to time zones, especially for European cards.
  • Same goes if you edit a post with picks in it after the main card starts.
  • If you wish to change your picks before the main card starts, make a separate post in the thread and I'll update the Form for you.
  • Points for each match are scored as follows
    • 3 points for picking the winner correctly
    • If you picked the correct winner, 1 bonus point for calling the round the fight finished
    • If you picked the correct winner, 1 bonus point for calling the method of finish (KO or Sub or Decision)
    • A fight that end in decision is not considered ending in a round
    • "OTNs" are given out for correctly picking the Fight, and the two Performances of the Night. These award no points, but are used to break a tie at the end of the season
    • On each card you can pick two POTN. If you pick the same person twice, I'll manually delete one.
  • Commission reserves the right to award no points for a fight based on really weird situations
  • Whoever has the highest combined score at the end of the season wins!

Too confusing? Please consult this handy flowchart to determine your score for a fight:

Here is the current season lineup:

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Hey I put my picks in the form but it's not in the spreadsheet, what gives?
A: Sometimes Google Docs takes a few minutes to populate your picks in the spreadsheet. If you're really worried about your picks getting in, just post them in the thread and I'll update it if necessary.

Q: I can't access the spreadsheet to view my results! Do I have to log in?
A: No, I probably just forgot to share the spreadsheet. Mention it in thread and I'll fix it as soon as possible.

Q: What's RNG stand for?
A: Random Number Generator. I just assign numbers to all the possible results and then have random.org spew out numbers with hilarious results.

Q: POTN? What happened to KOTN and SOTN?
A: Yeah, they changed the KOTN and SOTN bonuses to two bonuses that don't care about the finish of the match. See this link for more details. No change to FOTN.

Q: What is the actual purpose of posting your picks here prior to the card, just to compare with other goons or what?
A: It used to be how they were tallied manually by the "commission" before we developed the form/spreadsheet system to make things much easier. Now I will still do it just to be a little more transparent about how many points I'm giving myself, but otherwise it's not necessary. It can act as a failsafe in case your picks don't go through the form for some reason but that's about it. Note that it's a failsafe only if your points outright do not go through. The form responses get honored over anything posted in the thread unless you post asking me to change your form response before the event starts, so still check what you post carefully in the spreadsheet to make sure it's what you meant and how you feel.

Did you save a copy of the template/spreadsheet before you started working in them? Because I just got a request to share the results spreadsheet and I still have write access on it for some reason.

I made one change and realized I forgot to save the template so I saved it with a name change figuring I can always save it back. I do think I finished the form using the original template though, which might be why you're getting the notification. I figured it was too big a hassle to rebuild the form from there so I'd just use the right template after this event. Sorry, it's a learning curve! Let me know if I should do anything else differently, while you're still in here and making picks.

What you want to do is File > Make a copy of my original template, which I think saves it as a copy under your gdrive, and I won't have access to it. Not sure how this works when it's a non-public file that I've shared with you, but when I do that with public files that someone else it seems to handle it fine.

Venutolo takes a lead early but it's a stacked division with a five-way tie for second place. Yours truly really shat the bed here, putting faith in Brazilians to be able to perform in their own country (except for the objectively best person on the card) and only being saved from my third ever Shameful Failure by the Iron Hillbilly of all people.

Next event's a two-fer, look for it by this weekend!

Perhaps now more than ever, be sure to check your work since I am new and it is very possible I goofed something up somewhere in the process.

And if you're making picks later in the season and you didn't get your picks in for the first time, feel welcome to play! Just post in here noting it's your first time so I don't miss you during a step in the behind-the-scenes process.

Spreadsheet permissions were a matter of me just forgetting to change them before posting the link, the FOTN field was a weird copying error and the Darren Elkins problem was just plain old me loving up and leaving filler text from the last event in there. Everything SHOULD be fixed, and as always, I am new and bad at this so let me know if you see anything else!
