I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Actually you owe me 6! But who's countin?

Been trying gnome 3 for the past couple of months and I like it better than unity. Also giving Firefox another try because I made a friend that works there.

Firefox has crashed on me more than a few times and so has flash. Guess I need to figure out why this is happening. Welcome to Linux I guess

Thinking I might kubuntu for no other reason than hope it doesn't have my web browsers crash

yeah I rarely use flash but the one or two times I opened some flash thing it totally killed my firefox. I also used to get some weird font issues on firefox but I don't think I've seen them lately.

flash has always been bad on linux, but now it is unsupported. adobe no longer updates it, and it uses a dead browser plugin api from the 90s. i doubt it is even getting security patches

if you want flash on linux, chrome is mandatory. it comes with google's proprietary flash implementation, so it is not dependent on the dead adobe product. (not chromium, but google-branded chrome)

you have to disable flash blocking plugins cause they will cause youtube to think you have flash installed

they actually did this for kde 5. not the kidnapping part, but they have actual non-programmer designers working on it.

it's still a work in progress, but it already looks and feels far better than kde 4 ever did.

i never understood the point because if you're using something like openbox, what is the point of having a desktop? why not use a tiling wm?

because a guy i worked with used a tiling wm and was a total dick about how much better he was for it. so to answer your question: spite.

e: also openbox does some auto config stuff now so its very fast to get it up and running. i remember you used to have to build your menu from scratch, now i just launch obmenu and throw the poo poo i use all the time on the top.
