Everything was going well in my small colony, I was laughing at my one-eyed (remaining eye had cataract), one-armed and one-legged colonists attempts at hunting tortoises with a shotgun when suddenly YOU'VE GOT MAIL: HALF OF THE COLONY NOW HAS MALARIA Mind you fending off a siege party that dropped in soon after (I haven't even researched mortars yet) with my best gunner down was very hectic. I somehow managed to provoke them into an assault by sniping a couple of their guys who had wandered off to munch on their rations in privacy. I really need to get some outer defenses up, currently I've just fortified my ramshackle colony with embrasures and sandbags like some sort of sprawling hobo space castle. Got this and jesus christ is it fun. Totally scratching my DF itch! My only issue (and my issue with most dorflikes) is the lack of Z levels. This game would be so, so much better with them it's a shame

One of my colonists is a 15 year old girl who is also my 20 skill points medic and crafter. Awhile back she tried to go mono e mono with a mechanoid, had her right arm shot off, and was generally turned into swiss cheese but managed to survive with only the missing arm as a long-term injury. Naturally, I've been waiting for a trader with a bionic arm for sale to show up, and finally that happened. I replaced her left arm with it by accident.

When I was first learning the game a few weeks ago (whichever day I posted "Mengele Simulator") I captured a mad scientist from a pirate raid. However, in the course of learning how to extract organs from live prisoners, I must have pressed the wrong button because my mad scientist removed his own liver. He got it all the way out and packed in one of those boxes before he laid down and died. Then his pirate buddies came back in another raid and stomped my poor colony into the dirt.

Would be cool to have a mod where you can do hosed up human experiments (remove and readd every organ possible) to ramp up a person's medical skill, and add a bunch of new enhancement tiers (between 50% and 200%) that depend on how skilled your doctor is. Would also be a neat way to make use of prisoners.

AI core ship lands, my small fireteam of three uninjured colonists (one with an M-14 EBR, one with an Avenger M8, and one with a UMP-45) manage to kill the inhabitants without significant injury or losses. Feeling like a boss. "A psychic wave has caused all tortoises on the map to become enraged." Queue my colony dying as a wave of over two dozen turtles slowly severs all of the limbs.

One of my colonists just took a frag grenade to the face, and was promptly replaced with a bloody smear on the ground. EdB interface showed him as MISSING for two days. He took my best weapon and armour with him. I was being sieged so I woke up all my colonists in the middle of the night for a raid, nobody else died and I was unable to save one of the attackers from a stomache infection.

Moridin920 posted:is it possible to slowly make a colonist completely bionic through surgery? through a mod maybe? Right now in vanilla the closest you can get is replacing eyes, arms, and legs. This mod has almost everything else (minus torso/spine), and replaces the brain with multiple parts, some of which can be enhanced. Explosives must have a chance to instantly destroy the body when they kill people, or the damage is just so high it does hp damage to the corpse, like burning it does.

This is one of the most addictive and fun games I've played in a very, very long time. Building a mega-death-fortress is fun. I have a question, though; are there any retroactive mods? I don't want to make a new colony yet, but would like some more to work with. Any suggestions?

I've never skinned or cannibalized people and I try to recruit every person I capture instead of harvesting their organs, I feel like I'm playing the game wrong. I do, however, strip the corpses of attacking enemies naked and then leave them to rot and their bones to bleach in the sun. Unless they're in areas my colonists will go regularly, those get cremated. Enemies attacking my otherwise pleasant and idyllic frontier village are greeted by hundreds of human skeletons surrounding it.

Some people just are not worth the effort of recruiting and you only realize this after you've captured them. I'm not out to be Mengele or anything here, but executing them seems pretty inefficient when you can monetize them instead, and let me tell you, you can sell organs to a lot more traders than slaves.

I used to punch my raging prisoners who went on mental break; now I just step a bit away from them (since they can't keep up, due to being restrained) and shoot them. Most of the time, it works great, and is a ton faster. And if it's an accidental headshot, well, that guy deserved it anyway.

Cannibals should grow used to human flesh and then eventually prefer it, getting negative thoughts from other meats if all they've eaten was human stew for the past year or so.

Having various colony ethos options would be great: cannibal holocaust, warrior caste, workers commune, whatever. Like a universal extra trait or two that set the tone for your little outpost.

The storyteller is getting increasingly pissed at my long-lasting fortress now. Had a loving drone ship crash into my trade stockpile, literally inside my base, then had 30+ pirates attack (only to get absolutely mowed down by my shitton of turrets), and finally had every loving animal on the map get pissed. I honestly think there were more than a hundred. The turrets couldn't keep up with it, the animals broke my door down, entered the mountain, and started flooding the hallways. I managed to kill them (thanks, Dominik, based cyborg), but had to call it a day.

At first I was annoyed that harvesting organs required a medkit since prisoners were a waste of supplies. Then I realized that the kits were being used to keep the ORGANS healthy, not the prisoners, and all was right with the world. I'm not a monster, it's called being practical.

Is there a setting, or mod, that makes it so I don't have to click on an item to build, then select the material every single time? Let me right click to set material or something?
