It is a lot more varied than RTJ1 which I like. Couldve done without most of the features but what can ya do? Really solid release through and through and now that I have listened to it a couple times all the way I am fairly sure itll end up on my top 5 as well but it has been a really lackluster year so far for rap :ohdear:

Edit: i hope killer mike is working on an el-p produced follow up to R.A.P. Music now because theyre both on fire and perhaps at their peaks when it comes to rapping and producing, respectively

If overrated has a meaning, then R.A.P. Music and Run the Jewels are probably the most overrated rap albums of the post 00s. I can't think of any recent albums less deserving of the praise people heaped upon them.

Do you think people are enjoying those albums just to annoy you?

Anyway, on further listens RTJ2 is on par with the first one. Which is an achievement in itself. "Jeopardy" is still my favourite song currently. The production is just ridiculously good.

Old Town Road to EGOT

Bumped RTJ2 for the first time today while driving around town. poo poo was fresh. I have a feeling that "she said she wanted my dick in her mouth all day, dick in her mouth all day" sample is gonna pop into my mind at random times and make me crack the gently caress up.

that weird song break mid track i initially took for being jarring and off-putting, reminded me of the 'skits' that plagued every loving rap album for like 2 decades in song form. i just don't loving know but holy poo poo does it get play.

I think you're being disingenuous here. For me, Run The Jewels had a few decent tracks but I thought it was bizarre how much love it was getting at the time and how much it still is. Fair enough if you disagree

Calling something overrated or hyped isn't a personal insult. Maybe you don't know how opinions work.

May 13, 2005

I can see saying RTJ is overhyped. Its an album that falls into a really weird place where it's almost unanimously liked but a lot of people who really enjoyed it don't think it a really GREAT album. But based on the unanimous praise (because it is good and has great energy and everyone likes El-P and Killer Mike) you'd think it was better than it is.

It's loving criminal how little attention that I've seen going to R.A.P./Killer Mike. Honestly one of the best albums to date.

With the amazingly awful exception of Love Again, RTJ2 is definitely going in my top 3. Good shot at my #1 spot, too. Really, all the features were loving unnecessary as poo poo, and it's no surprise that a repeat of my least favourite RTJ1 song replacing the feature with someone who doesn't give me warm fuzzy memories of the first rap album I ever bought wouldn't make me happy.

Yeah, I think that's a fair assessment. RTJ got gushed over, and it's reasonable to think that it's good but undeserving of how effusive people were in their praise (though I'm assuming temple is not saying it's good)

6 God tries to mimic Worst Behavior and comes out being less believable or entertaining, and calling Toronto "the 6" is kinda dorky. My friend pointed out how often he does his fake-bad-singing on the track ("Baaaawwwwwlllll haaawwwwg" at :40 for reference) and now hearing it really bothers me.

The other two songs are about as good as you can get from Drake. Solid chilling with your significant other music.

Ill concur that RTJ project has spawned this odd cult following that places it squarely in overhyped territory. I wonder why that is? Killer Mike is one of my favorite MCs and individuals who has always deserved more fame or at least recognition. El-P i never really knew of or followed until hearing RTJ but i have grown to respect him as a producer and a serviceable if somewhat immature MC. Anyway, "solid" is still the word I would use to describe both albums.

Why is toronto called the 6 anyway? I was gonna look it up but ehh
