Well, that's completely untrue.

I understand it sucks but the social element of this game hinges around arbitrary player elimination. No matter what, someone leaves day one and it is never going to be especially fair.

Byers wants to kill players who haven't had a chance to play much. After he kills a perceived threat. Why is that more valid than any other vote?

Today is all about jockeying for position, the only difference is that I'm being honest about my strategy.

Just as a point of order, my goal isn't the elimination of all superior players. That's impossible to determine and has some weird connotations. I don't know anyone else here well enough to make that kind of determination about them, but I'm willing to take my chances because I signed up for this :shobon:

Yeah but that's kind of what I was irritated about. It's not like byers and Somber have defined the only methods in which we can play. And it's not a with us or against us situation.

Also as discussed earlier, they have defined the same method but with different orders.

I mean like Byers proposal was like eliminate the lurkers and jokers then eliminate the strong. The first part is a reskinned eccogambit but the second part is the same as Somber's strategy. If there are few lurkers and jokers then it's the same as Somber's. If lurkers and jokers is more loosely defined it might become an elimination of the relatively unknown people who don't speak up as much.

I mean like all the best winning strategies will probably have "eliminate somebody perceived to be close to winning" in them because that's the kind of game this is.

You're really not paying attention to what I've actually said, have you? I'm not promising to go with Somber to the final 2 or be lifelong BFFs or anything. I don't even know if I can beat him or anyone in the codebreaking side of this game because we haven't had a real chance to get stuck in to it and see how it works. And you're wrong about merk, I'm open to hearing him out but he hasn't said anything yet so there's not really anything I can discuss there. And is my vote selfish? Of course it is. So is yours and so is winv's and so is Somber's. We're all here to vote in a way that will get us further in this game. I kinda thought that was so obvious it didn't need to be said.

And you clearly haven't seen my season of Awful Survivor because if you had you'd know it was actually Awful Big Brother, which just shows you're only saying words to make yourself look good without paying attention to what's actually true.

Survivor, Big Brother, same difference. It's where you worked closely with Asiina only to backstab her at the perfect time. Your nature is to work your agenda behind the scenes, where your words do not convey what you really think about the situation.

We're all voting with a selfish agenda, but you tried to hide that behind a veneer of moral superiority.

MildManeredManikin posted:

It would be interesting if everybody divided up into groups of 3. Three is an easy alliance number because if coordinate communication then you can end up talking to both of the people in your alliance that aren't you.

Three has the best everyone talks to everyone set-up, but ignore the social game for a second and look at the actual code work that needs to happen. Every person gets one guess a day, and guesses are how you can parse out word locations. More people leads to more parsing done in a day, that's why I said 3-5 earlier. The only line that's been drawn in my mind, right now, has to do with the approach.

Somber's decided to take it to a Final Two and set up a goat to bring with him, while I'm trying to set things up to allow an early solve of the code. I'm more interested in the puzzle of the code than the social elimination, Somber's decided to essentially ignore the code until late in the game. That's why he's unconcerned about getting the codes from people not participating, while I want to eliminate those people to get their codes for us to work with.

What I specifically had a problem with was the idea that people should follow either you or byers. I don't think it's something either of you directly said but it's what I felt coming across. Gave me a very two party system vibe.

More importantly it was ok when I did it because I'm me.

This would be a very boring game, in my opinion. We shouldn't be America, we should be England. Lots of factions, all with degrees of power. Groups of 3 and 4 players working together, players bouncing between to see if they can learn anything new from a different group, everyone trying to solve the puzzle and not just gather votes. That's the type of game I want.

And it should be made clear, I'm not in an alliance with winvirus. We were forced to the same side just in terms of needing to fight against Somber's idea. I have no intention of submitting him as who I talk with tonight. The idea that there's a hard alliance is something being fabricated by Somber and Rarity.

That's a false explanation of my plan. I want to vote out people who are not playing the game so that we can access their codes. You're ignoring that whole side of things, because your game plan doesn't need their codes to be revealed early. You're playing to reach a point in the game where all codes have been revealed regardless, at which point most people are out of the game with no chance at winning. PoP's right; my suggestion leads to more than two people have a chance at playing the game successfully, yours limits the winner to whomever the final 2 are.

It looks like an eccogambit on the surface, but the reasoning is very different. This isn't Mafia and it can't be played as such. What matters here isn't surviving, but building up a knowledge base needed to win before you're eliminated.

Yeah, I don't get it either. To be frank, I haven't really considered the best course of action, but I feel like I would work with literally anyone at this point, and the only reason I would have to vote someone out wold be if I thought they were somehow super good at puzzles and wouldn't ever have any interest in working with me. There's really not. This isn't just a social game; I'm voting you with winvirus because of mutual self-interest, but not planning to reach out to him for working on the code itself. You're still ignoring that whole second half of the game, because you just plan to outlast everyone.

I can't tell if we're talking past each other or if this is you being manipulative.

Everyone should be trying to outlast everyone else. Everyone should also be trying to break the code. That is true for everyone! Everyone should be playing that way! Trying to last to endgame is not unique to me or any other player! Ignoring the social game aspect isn't noble or sportsmanlike, it's just silly. This is the game as written.

As far as I see, the best way to determine word position to coordinate and share position guesses for that word with a large group of people. I don't think it's possible for any one person to really help you with position.

Two people working together can find the position of a single word without revealing their own words/positions, likely in a single day. More people can work more words and guarantee the one day timeframe.
