Everyone should be trying to outlast everyone else. Everyone should also be trying to break the code. That is true for everyone! Everyone should be playing that way! Trying to last to endgame is not unique to me or any other player! Ignoring the social game aspect isn't noble or sportsmanlike, it's just silly. This is the game as written.

That's the problem; there's only an endgame if you don't try to solve the code. I'm not waiting for final two to try and solve the code, and as such I'm focusing on how I can work with other people to solve the code. You're focusing on how to play the social game to get to the final two, where you'll use whatever you've learned up to that point to try and win the final game.

Hey, I'd really like to solve the code. I'm going to be working on it throughout the game. You're right in that it's a little bit easier than I thought. Again, though, it just makes sense to try not to die while working on the code.

Like, drat dude, I've been one of the most active players in this game so far. The thing is that we can't really talk about the code much until we have more information to work with, so I dunno what else you want to talk about. Every game has to start somewhere.

If I said I was waiting until final two to play the game somewhere, that was based on a flawed understanding of the game and I am sorry for being wrong. However, I am pretty sure I never said that and you're just fabricating that point in order to have a convenient villain to rally against.

Well, I mean, the subtext is that we would share our words, mutually. We would still have leverage after that in regards to which position it is in.

Each player gets two pieces of leverage: their word, and their position. Their word is much more valuable, since position can be bruteforced, but position can give you an end-game edge.

The problem with this strategy is that you're relying on every surviving player to have revealed their words. Do you really expect that's going to happen?

It's certainly possible. What precludes it from happening? Someone bitterly withholding their word, maybe, or lying about their word, but both of those mean that player *must* get to the endgame, since otherwise others will similarly withhold information.

For real? Goddammit.

I edit most of my posts at least 3-4 times. I will do my best to remember not to. I have totally done it in this thread already several times, though.

ninja editing is mostly okay, especially if it's just for grammar/wording. Typical Trad Games rules have this in place so people can't deny having written stuff before.

My strategy revolves around sharing with people, if not full words than at least information about words, yes. If you look at my initial strategy post, the less likely someone is to share information, the more attractive they are to me as a vote.

Except sharing information means nothing because it's meaningless info. I've already said a bunch about my word and there's still not a chance any of you will guess it. All you're doing is trying to gain allies by pretending to give them important info that doesn't actually matter.

Presumably, once things are private, Byers plans to share more in exchange for other peoples' information.

I mean, you should still totally vote to eliminate him, but this isn't really a good reason why.

No, what I'm doing is offering them information that truly does matter in exchange for similar information from them, with the hope that I can use what I get before they can use what they get. This is what you and Somber both keep missing, I'm not building votes, I'm building a base of knowledge. Surviving is important, but still secondary to solving the drat code. To do that, I need to pay out real information to get real information back.

winvirus is planning something very similar, I think. Note that we've both independently mentioned the importance of word location as information. For me, the location of a word is the most important fact to keep hidden. That piece of the puzzle, and our ability to solve it, is where the game revolves unless you make it just a game about voting.

The only information that matters is the word. Anything else is unverifiable. I could say to you 'it's a verb starting with S' and you would never be able to tell I'm lying because there are too many words that fit those conditions to test them all. You can be led on a wild goose chase and all I have to do is go 'Haha nope, keep guessing!'

I sort of see where he's coming from, mostly because the word is necessarily revealed when someone is voted out, while the position is only revealed half the time someone is voted out. I still think the word is more valuable, as position is far easier to guess than the word.
