Twin Peaks owns and they've released a new album called Wild Onion. If you're into The Orwells, Mac DeMarco, Bass Drum of Death, or Japandroids I'd definitely recommend checking this band out. I found out about them through their re-release of their debut, which is also a fantastic beach/garage rock piece. They've toured with The Orwells before and played at FYF this past summer where they were fantastic. The band's made up of a bunch of college aged kids from Chicago, IL that decided to stay together as a band and tour instead of splitting up and going to school. They've been slowly garnering more and more attention and I'm hoping that this new album will really get them some much deserved airtime.

Here's my new favorite off their release titled Making Breakfast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tl9SRsPbWLM

NZCA/LINES is coming out with New Atmosphere this December. He's released the title track as a single and it's pretty enjoyable to listen to. Couldn't find a streaming link on Youtube or his SoundCloud, but enjoy a previous song of his entitled Compass Points and see if it interests you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iDGEl7OO7o

Borns just put out this single entitled 10,000 Emerald Pools. Mellow, beautiful track. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDTYp4a_eWM

Mark Kozelek is a loving dweeb but Rollercoaster is good and Ocean Beach is incomparable. None of his Sun Kil Moon stuff approaches those two Red House Painters albums and with how he's been acting lately I just don't see being able to enjoy anything he makes from here on out.

The Sun Kil Moon guy is pathetic with his publicity stunt. Sure, people are talking but it's going to be short term and I doubt the dude is gaining fans by being a tool.

Remember when he put out that album of really slow ballady Modest Mouse covers, but instead of doing songs that made any sense that way he did like Convenient Parking and Tiny Cities Made of Ashes?

I saw DFA1979 live for the first time today today and they were everything I hoped they would be. They played everything I wanted to hear them play, they were fast, they were loud, I couldn't believe those sounds were coming from 2 people, I couldn't believe Jesse was playing the loving bass like that live, etc.

I got a video of Turn It Out that I'm uploading to YouTube. I'll post it later if anyone's interested.

I know this isn't new, but Born Ruffians have been one of my favorite bands for a long time and I wanted to share this song, Hummingbird, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kX4lJWQsJp0

You might recognize Kevin Morby from his contributions in The Babies and as the band Woods former bassist. The guy is super talented and he makes it apparent on his new release Still Life. Here's the entire album up on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwiWQ_Mqzd8

That song is indeed a bit boring at least on its own. BUT, thank you for linking this because they are coming on a European tour and I have yet to see them live and I need this in my life! :f5:

Fake edit: It sounds like it might make more sense as a song when one listens to it as part of the whole album. At least I hope so.

I hope not, but I agree that the song isn't great. I just hope that it will somehow fit better when one has listened to half of the album by that point and is in the right mood. I can't say I'm a big fan of their concept album either, it got a bit grating after a few songs, and they tried a bit too hard throughout. But then again, there is still a chance they play old things live, right? Right? :saddowns:

I loved the poo poo out of Hazards of Love because I grew up on overwrought prog rock so much that I don't consider "overwrought" to be an insult. King is Dead never grew on me even though I liked a few songs quite a bit.

Edit: My favorite Hazards of Love listening experiences involved a lot of dissociatives, this may be a prerequisite.

The King is Dead started off as my least favorite of theirs, but nowadays that one probably is one of my favorites, outside of their early stuff that I have way too much of a sentimental attachment to.

I love Fear Fun but "Bored in the USA" has me wondering that Josh has lost a few more bricks from the wall. Granted, this <could> be a good thing.

On a related note, I wondered if Robin Pecknold* lost his muse when Josh left Fleet Foxes because they haven't done anything for 3.5 years, but I looked on Wikipedia and apparently he's working on his bachelor's degree and writing in his spare time?

* I made a thread around the time the Sun Giant EP and s/t album came out and recall a Seattle goon or two saying they knew Pecknold and thought he was kind of a douche.

If you like that track try the American Ghetto album. For more of their classic rock sound In the Mountain in the Cloud and Satanic Satanists are good choices. Those guys have been recording solid albums regularly for the past decade so you can't go wrong no matter where you start.

Whitest Boy Alive released an album called Rules back in 2009. They're an older band and I remember listening to them in college and thinking they sound an awful lot like Kings of Convenience, just a bit less depressing. Only a bit.

Anyway, BlogRadio played this little tune called Courage and I love it. It's laid back, but still gives you a little something to clap to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKnCoK1UT2Y. If you like this song, check our their 2007 piece.

Owen Pallet is a prolific, and very talented artist. He's worked to help produce and feature with several artists, does solo work under his own name including neat little covers for bands like Stars, and recently played the strings for Warren Hildebrand's Foxes In Fiction, Ontario Gothic. If you remember Memory Pools, Ontario Gothic is in a similar vein. It capitalizes on the simple, layered dreamy melodies that made Memory Pools a real pleasure to listen to. I honestly wish this guy would get a bit more exposure so here's 3 tracks of his that I think are great; 2 from his new release and 1 from Memory Pools.

Just in case you didn't know (though I presume you do), the reason why Whitest Boy Alive and Kings of Convenience sound alike is because they are both bands of Erland Øye. I still adore the Kings of Convenience's song "Little Kids": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MW33ySj9Riw

He really is great to watch live. I like that No Cars Go performance. His cover of Your Ex-Lover Is Dead by Stars is an old favorite of mine. There's something he does with the strings that adds an almost anxiety-inducing aspect to the track. It sounds weird, like why would anyone like to listen to that? But it's a nice twist on a great song. It really grew on me after a couple of listens. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WROUOOtC7U
