Careful, it functions like a buffer. If you press it too many times it'll queue up the pending commands and do nothing but spin in circles all day trying to clear the backlog.

Not an appealing prospect. The ongoing performance success of the LT/LS/LT platforms make all this DOHC horseshit look like a flash in the plan. In a world where we need to fit turbos and batteries into our engine bay, a OHV configuration seems just fine to me.

Yeah, packaging and simplicity is the big reason the LSx is so popular. Add dohc and you might as well just use a ford/toyota/nissan engine that has been around long enough to be reliable and have an aftermarket.

I disagree. When we can finally put "TWIN CAM" decals across the bottom of our doors again, we will truly be free

Really, I think we should add more cams to each head. I won't be happy until each valve is independently controlled by its own camshaft.

That's the way the next Audi V8 will be done when everyone else is using hydraulic or solenoid actuated valves. Each valve's camshaft will have a sensor that can leak coolant or oil into the wiring harness as well as a brazed steel tube assembly for high pressure oil and a control module that manages the valve that runs the cam that runs the valve.

There will be 32 timing chains and 16 balance shafts. On the back of the engine.

The amazing part will be that the first required service for these parts will take place 5,000 miles out of warranty and the car will run perfectly right until that point.

They'll have the chains run around the perimeter of the engine but separated by a plastic chain guide that prevents them from coming into contact with one another. When your motor mounts age out at 24,000 km the chain guides will snap from rubbing against the underside of the hood on upshifts and start actuating the wrong valves.

Variable valve timing will be accomplished by varying the amount of oil that each chain is lubed with, by increasing friction marginally the total valve duration can be increased from slowing the chain down as it passes over the cam gear. This will require 32 individual high-pressure oil pumps with biodegradable plastic impellers. This is also how the start-stop system is implemented, with nominally-replaceable asbestos service brakes on each chain allowing the car to instantly stop and resume at red lights.

In order to maximize the amount of weight put over the front axle, Audi engineers will push the engine even further forward and split the radiator into four individual radiators, like a cow's stomach. Two of them will face directly into the front wheel wells in order to take advantage of the active cooling effect of driving into puddles. Each radiator will also have a variable geometry inlet and outlet to reduce cooling system pumping loss, actuated through a flimsy plastic cam that is moved by hobby-shop Chinese RC motors whose wiring harness is exposed in the wheelwell tantalizingly close to the control arms.

The interior will squeak at 72,000 km followed shortly by the C-pillar trim falling off the ceiling on cold days.

The cam position sensors will all be optical.

Oh wait, that's just hosed up. Audi loves VR type sensors (god bless em!), we aren't talking about loving Nissan or the craptispark here.
