15-14 YTD on football. Going to put college picks on here when I make them. Just putting the record in here so I don't have to go back and look on my betbud spreadsheet. 43-46-5 Baseball. 6-5 Soccer. Somehow with that I'm up 15 units on the year. Good BRMM I guess and some lucky high unit confidence bets.

I had a small bet on Hawaii this evening at +9.5. With 10:56 left in the 3rd quarter Oregon St. scored to make it 38-7 and I quit paying attention to the game. Turns out Hawaii scored 23 unanswered points in the 4th to get the miracle cover in a 38-30 loss. I can only imagine how the people who bet Oregon State must be feeling right now.

Are you really going to be able to bet on sports in New Jersey or is this just big talk from Chris Christie

ElwoodCuse posted:Are you really going to be able to bet on sports in New Jersey or is this just big talk from Chris Christie It's really interesting that you bring this up. The easy answer? I don't know. The NFL is mounting a furious attack to defeat any measure that would allow it because they want a sizable cut. The NBA embraces it, but again, they want a cut. The NHL and MLB have both been documented as being very much against it. I think we're going to see it legalized here soon, at least in some cash strapped states. States are struggling, particularly states like California and New Jersey, and as Adam Silver recently said, the push is only going to get stronger as States look for easy revenue sources. I think you'll see a pretty heavy tax and I'm not sure where it will come from (juice or just a flat tax on payout). New Jersey in particular is operating on a loophole to try to get this thing through, and most analysis I've read is that the casinos there in AC wouldn't want to risk certification on a loophole. Is Jersey first? Who knows? But I expect it to be relatively nationwide in the next 5 years. I think the most interesting piece of this is Adam Silver on fan engagement. Adam Silver posted:“If you have a gentleman’s bet or a small wager on any kind of sports contest, it makes you that much more engaged in it,” Silver said. “That’s where we’re going to see it pay dividends. If people are watching a game and clicking to bet on their smartphones, which is what people are doing in the United Kingdom right now, then it’s much more likely you’re going to stay tuned for a long time.” If every league took this approach and the gov't got on board, this whole thing would be tied up right now and I'd be betting on games left and right on betonline.usa instead of .ag. thompson fucked around with this message at 19:52 on Sep 9, 2014 |

I could see sports gambling being treated like marijuana laws. Yeah it is against federal law but we won't enforce it if states allow it. States need money badly due to mismanagement so hey lets use a get rich quick scheme!

I know there isn't a ton of MLS action here, but there are a couple of interesting games to look at. DC (+269) vs Houston (+106) DC has never won in Houston and they have already clinched the playoffs. This means they will probably rest some people. Does that mean that Houston has the edge? I don't think so. San Jose (+530) v RSL (-172) I think the San Jose vs RSL match has some good opportunity here. Both meetings have ended in a draw and RSL is not doing well lately. That line makes it worth it to chance some money on.

Anyone have any experience with daily fantasy sports (eg Fanduel and the like)? What has your experience been like? I'm thinking about giving basketball a go this season but there's a shitload of info out there. Don't suppose there is a thread for that I missed?

If there is it would be in the Armchair QB, but I have no problem discussing it here. I've used both Fanduel and Draftkings. Both are really fun if you figure out what niche you're looking for. The guys who are all up on TV saying they won 100k or more got lucky in one of the tournaments which have set prize payouts depending on how high your point total is, a lot like a Poker Stars or Full Tilt tournament. The one on one battles are good too, but i'd make sure to look at the guys profile. A lot of these people do this day in and day out and know about little gimmicks in the system (salaries that are broken, etc) and are thus pretty tough to beat. Also, the deposit bonus will take you a ton of rollover to ever get. Good stuff though. I'd try it and see if you like it.

Today I'm hoping for: Islanders def. Jets + over 5.5 goals (Isles and Jets are not great defensively, poor goaltending, and I think Isles are a better team overall) Toronto def. Buffalo + over 5.5 goals (Toronto should easily beat Buffalo, I just hope Kessel goes on a tear) Hawks def. Ducks + under 5.5 goals (this one I am least confident in, if Crawford plays badly the Ducks will blow the under 5.5goals, and if the Hawks backup gets the start well then all bets are off. If both teams play well I think it'll be a really tight, low-scoring game and I am really just guessing as to which team will actually win, but the Hawks are at home so I think they'll take it) If that comes off I'll turn into $234

NBA Betting Tip: Suns and Blazers to win (accumulator) is 3/2 odds. Both teams are at full strength, at home, going against opponents that are ravaged by injury. The Lakers are on the second leg of a back to back. Anything can happen in the NBA, but these two seem like pretty sure things.
