don't use linux on your work machine if you're a creative

also photoshop can be bad but everything else is so much worse that you may as well just use it if you're in mac or win

Its ok to be honest about what you do with windows. This is a safe space, and no one from big linux will ever know.

I still receive updates on an Inkscape bug because after 8+ years or so, they still cannot save text properly in an SVG export.

I tried out elementaryOS last night on my daughter's old Acer netbook. It actually runs decent on a machine with only a gig of RAM. Serious needs suiting going on there.

i've never seen screenshots of this and cbf installing it. the fonts in fedora with freetype-world and slight hinting are better than win+osx anyway.

add repo

pacman -S infinality

like that's a 3/10 on the linux spergery scale at best

and yeah do it, not so much because it makes fonts look very pretty (it does) but because the kerning on stock freetype is a loving disaster area without this patch :barf:

$ gsettings set org.gnome.shell.app-switcher current-workspace-only true

If you use the built-in window switcher instead (it's a separate keybinding in Settings, check on the Keyboard and set it so that Alt+Tab is for Switch Windows rather than Switch Applications), then:

$ gsettings set org.gnome.shell.window-switcher current-workspace-only true

Workspaces actually have two different sets of use cases. We discussed this for a full day, and I wrote a bug comment about it: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=660502#c13

also ugh i keep having to look this post up and it annoys me because this default is so objectively loving WRONG

why separate "activities" into different desktops and then not actually separate them

Read the bug comment. Some people don't use workspaces to separate activities.

yeah the performance is just as good as windows w/ my nvidia. just it has a very high chance of running out of memory if you don't turn off the advanced graphics features.

it's not valve's fault that fglrx is complete garbage that should never be used on anything ever.
