It’s time for…
THE DOCTOR WHO THREAD SECRET SANTA!

Yes, it’s that time of the year again!

If you're new to this Secret Santa malarkey, we all throw our names into my hat, receive a random name, and send that person a lovely gift of Doctor Who goodies, toys, candy, maybe some booze, and all around a big ol' ball of holiday cheer! It's fun, trust me. No, really.

SIGNING UP:

1 )Right, I’m trying something new here. Sign up here: http://goo.gl/forms/ZGb7uPIaEX

If you find you are having problems, email me at :siren: doctorwhosecretsanta [at] gmail [dot] com :siren:
In the subject, please include the tag [DWSS] as I am running another Secret Santa and don’t want to confuse the two.

2) Post in this thread! Tell us what kinds of stuff you're into! Once Santas are assigned, we're all going to be trying to figure each other out, so some healthy conversation will help things go smoothly.

3) DEADLINE: The deadline for sign-ups is FRIDAY NOVEMBER 28TH! #SAVETHEDAY Assignments should go out shortly thereafter.

4) BUDGET: Somewhere in the $25-$30 (£15-20) range (before shipping). You're welcome to spend more, but that's no guarantee you'll get that much in return. Gag gifts are cool, but please include some kind of actual gift.

5) COLLEGE STUDENTS: Remember that these gifts will likely go out around the holiday break, so be mindful of which address you give me. If you have any concerns about packages being stolen from your doorstep, use the address of your work/friend/parents, just so long as it's cool with them.

4) INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: If you sign up for this, you are agreeing to the possibility of getting an international address. The USPS international price calculator can be found here.

5) SHIPPING DEADLINES:
• International - Friday December 12th (This is the UK to US last shipping date, so I'd imagine the same is true vice versa)
• Within the same country - Wednesday December 17th

6) WHEN YOUR GIFT ARRIVES: Show us your loot! You can wait until Christmas morning if you want, but still, show us all the awesome goodies Santa brought you.

7) LATE PACKAGES: If you haven't received your gift by January 1st, let me know so I can look into it. If you haven't SENT your gift by December 17th, let me know so I can contact your recipient.

8) DON'T BE A DEADBEAT: If you sign up, please get your person something. Nobody likes a deadbeat santa.

9) FINALLY: A Merry Christmas to all of you at home!

And for those who wanted the Round Things:

Not just an announcement about Dark Eyes 4 - they snuck in that they're planning a new series of 8th Doctor box sets to be announced formally next year. Glad to see Paul McGann is continuing on with Big Finish, when Dark Eyes 2, 3, and 4 were announced it seemed like they were getting him to a point where he could stop if he chose to.

From the special features on DE3, it really seemed like Night of The Doctor and Five(ish) Doctors Reboot had an invigorating effect on his interest in the franchise. Here's to hoping that they retain the license past 2016. In a perfect world, they'd get the license for new Doctors once Capaldi chooses to end his reign on TV and makes the jump with the other revival Doctors to audio.

This warms my heart(s). I’ve said it before, but the fact that we’re getting NEW episodes and adventures with the classic Doctors done produced by a company that gives a drat about both the product AND the franchise (as opposed to the 1980’s/1990’s BBC budget office) still makes me smile. I might have to regenerate at the end of my days just to be able to hear it all!

And I know he’s amazing, but Alex MacQueen’s Master just has a face that screams “yes, you want to punch me. Yes, you know that’s a very bad idea.”

I'm OK, you're so-so
Dark Eyes has been great, but I hope they're doing something a bit smaller-scale next. India Fisher's doing BF again, so maybe an Eight/Charley anthology box set or something, some one-episode shorts from a bunch of different writers? That'd be lovely.

All this talk of 'Dark Eyes' has got me interested. I heard the first series of 8th Doctor Adventures with Lucie Miller when Radio 4 broadcast them a few years back but haven't kept up since then. Would I be OK to hop in again starting with Dark Eyes I or should I fill in the gap?

You'd be okay hopping in, though it will spoil some stuff from the last Eight/Lucie season. I'd recommend finishing the rest of the Lucie stories if possible, since there's a lot of good stuff in there and the last season in particular is amazing.

Awesome! Here's the real question, though. Are those actually autographed to you, or a previous owner?

E: Also I'd love to get in on DWSS, but am mildly worried that I haven't spent enough time in the threads to be able to actually tell what to get somebody. I see there are those checkboxes on favorite doctors which I assume are to help prevent just that problem, any other things I should be aware of, like gifts that everybody will probably already have or anything?

ASK ME ABOUT POWER RANGERS MYSTIC FORCE
I'm kind of new to the Secret Santa thing, as well as this thread in general, but I like console and handheld games involving 3D platforming, adventure, and collectathons, candy and food, and books. Pretty simple all around, but I hope someone's nice enough to get me something.

Examples of what I want are along the lines of, but are not

Banjo Tooie

Fantasy Life

Okami

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

I'm really interested in urban fantasy novels and sci fi novels that are more "soft" in genre, but I've never had a Doctor Who book before. I have only the first book of the Dresden Files, but most of Discworld up to Wintersmith.

Good luck, Secret Santa! :)
