El Gallinero Gros posted:Are you just reviewing the show or are you gonna interview El-P and Mike? Just reviewing the show. I'm not sure if the site does interviews but I'll ask for future reference. At the risk of making myself easily doxxable for the sake of getting more readers, I got a freelance gig writing for Ruby Hornet, which used to be a Chicago hip-hop blog but is now a general culture website. Some of my stuff may also wind up on Chicago Music, which is part of the same company. You'll be more likely to see me writing about rock and metal, but I was going to RTJ anyway and it looks like Danny Brown will be doable too.

Eminem's transformation from nightmare of conservative parents to bane of young leftists is kind of funny considering his lyrical themes changed very little.

It's apparently ok in their world to talk with great detail about selling drugs and killing darkies, but heaven forbid you call someone a human being. Also see the blowup on Rick Ross's verse of "UOENO". I could go on, but this is a rap (& rnb!) thread and the most those people have to do with rap is maybe hearing something coming from down the block of the neighborhoods they're gentrifying. GET MONEY posted:wayne really snapped on that new nicki. fully in the pocket. when is c5 out again? I heard Dec 9 but who even knows. Supposed to be just the first half too or something. I'm still optimistic though cause he's been seeming to steadily gain steam since IANAHB 2. Also I know there were a few of the aforementioned "thinkpiece" articles about that video but I think it's pretty cool.

EATIN SHRIMP posted:Also the difference between peoples reaction to the pictures Snoop posted roasting her and Em's lyrics is pretty telling. Tip won't make the phone call to Eminem though. Also for laughs check what Entertainment Weekly said about the song when it was released: Entertainment Weekly posted:'Kim', a prequel to "'97 Bonnie and Clyde'" is a shout-rapped enactment of domestic violence so real it chills... 'Stan' and 'Kim' blaze significant new ground for rap. I guess people are more "progressive" now or w/e but seriously having Eminem say he's gonna rape you at this point is like being insulted by Don Rickles (and it's just about as shocking). And yeah it is interesting how stuff like this used to be the target of conservatives (who now largely ignore it) whereas it's the younger, more liberal crowd that seems to crow a bunch. But anyhoo, rap's pretty cool! And I have a request that I hope dudes follow (or not, whatever). The Stand4rd album that came out recently kinda caught me by surprise, and it probably would've been a couple months (or more) that would've went by before I listened to it if someone hadn't have mentioned it a couple of times. I mean there's a ton of stuff that comes out, and I tend to get stuck on a few things that catch my attention (which is why I largely missed out on Exquire's album from last year, for instance). So if people got any other albums in the last year or so they think didn't get enough mention or whatever, sell people on them. Big releases, small releases, whatever. That's really the advantage of a place like this-you can actually question people (usually) and whatnot, over random lists of new releases or w/e.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEC2avceTxY New video from the Chicago rapper behind the great remix of "Try Me". Go figure that the song with "ice cream" in the title isn't about selling coke for a change (though to be fair I guess "Ice Cream Paint Job" wasn't either)

This was announced earlier this month but I don't recall seeing it here. Now that this is an R&B thread also, and Beyonce's s/t album from late last year is one of my favorite albums in recent memory, I was pretty loving excited to learn there is a 4-disc deluxe edition coming out soon. Unfortunately there isn't that much new stuff (except on the first CD) but it is more of a compilation of all the great stuff surrounding the album such as the HBO special and original video series that came out with it:Beyonce posted:MORE AUDIO CD: amazon pre-order if anyone else is interested 15.99 mp3 / 26.99 cd / 30 vinyl

I haven't actually checked out these doods but there's overlap in my social circle and they put on for St. Paul which is really cool. I actually posted the album when it dropped but still haven't listed to it. DJ Khaled is nuts for these guys though. He introduced them at SOB'S in NYC and is apparently a huge fan of Spooky Black especially.
